my great grandmother ellen lewis wed william axford at steynton church milford haven pembrokeshire, their marriage was registered in haverfordwest, we have the marriage certifictate which states william axford was from middlesex his dad was also william axford problem is cant find the man on the 1851 cencus he was born 1842-1843 in middlesex his occupation when married was a royal naval signalman he was witness to his his childrens weddings were his occupation was mariner. any help will earn you a kiss perhaps two :o) shirl

The marriage cert would show his residence at the time...........not necessarily any indication of where he was born............. What was the father's occupation? Reg

On the 1871 census Ellen is at home with her parents, no sign of William...He must be away with the Navy because on the image it says Ellen is Signalman RN wife. in 1881 and 1891 it states he was born in middlesex in both 1843 and 1844 i found that william axford in 1845 in middlesex now am confused aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Shirley on the 1891 census Ellen is 49 years old but when she dies in 1898 she is only 54, maybe they were not sure of their birth years? yes georgina we saw this about the age also ellen died of influenza we had her death cert yesterday william her son died from drowning and is buried in steynton cemetary with his baby daughter misscarried thru shock of his wife at his death then the eyar after their daughter elizabeth amelia died in childbirth with gastric flu she didnt eat ord rink for two weeks cos of her illness but cos she was 8 months pregnant we think she must have has preaclampcia and my grandfer and his brother was put into the workhouse
