I know that my grandfather existed in 1924 at 34 Greengate Salford until 1930.Cannot find a marraige between him and my grandmother. His name is on birth certs for my father and one of his brothers. No age is given for him only the above address. He is also named on g.mothers death cert. The only document that would have had his dob on would have been a marraige cert. How can I find out his dob?His name was Harold Brierley and was with his wife? Mary Agnes Brierley nee Mitchell on birth certs.Found Mary was born 1893 in Chorlton but on 1901 census surname was Golden but really Goulden. The name Mitchell was from a marraige to Thomas Goulden in 1914.Have gained all info on her but nothing on Harold Brierley. Can anyone help me find his dob? PLEASE!!! Wanda.x |

No thats what Im saying. If I had a marraige cert for him and my grandmother then it would be on there. Is there any other way with the info I have on him from 1924 to find out his dob? A lady has found details on a Harold Brierley in ww1 but still need to know his dob to see if it is him.Wanda. |

As I said a marraige cert would give fathers name so a trace can be done from there....Reg do not know when Thomas Mitchell died as they married when the war started but he is not around on the birth certs of Leo in 1919 or Harold in 1922.....In 1924 Harold is on the the 1924 electoral roll at 34 greengate,Salford with Mary and after Marys death in 1931 there is no trace of him.Without his dob cant link him to anyone. Is there any other way I can find this out.Wanda.x |

Leo always thought his surname was Brierley until he went for his birth cert for pension and found he was registered as Mitchell.Harold Brierley must have been around when he was young for him to believe this was his father.Would the local records in Salford have any idea as to his age.It does say on Herberts birth cert that his occupation was a general labourer,Highways Corporation.Wanda.x...Thanks for looking K.Thats what Im saying hes theresomewhere but need dob. |

I am sorry Wanda - The only thing I can suggest is trawling through the complete images for marriages for both of them up to the year Mary died. It could be that Harold was a second christian name and he was married using the first name. It is worth spending the time checking the different options Good Luck Kay |

Hi Wanda, It's along shot but traditionally Christian names were passed on throughout the generations and I was working on the possibility that either James or Herbert were named after their grandfather - Harold's father In 1901 there is Harold Brierley born Oldham 1891 to Herbert and Emily There is a Harold born 1891 Manchester to James and Louisa M and Harold born 1892, Manchester to James W and Mary E I've trawled the complete marriage records from 1921 to 1928 and the closest thing that I came across was Herbert Brierley married to ----Goulding in June quarter of 1922 in Oldham Good Luck, something will eventually appear and probably by sheer chance and when you least expect it |

I know people were a lot more literate by this time but have you considered various spellings, Brearley, Brereley etc. His wife was obviously unaware of the Goulden/Golden spelling. |
