Hi to all ! I wondered if anyone who was visiting a records office could look up something for me.I am trying to search for the details of Marion Makinsons birth. She was born 1928 at Fitzwilliam-Wakefield-Yorkshire.I would love to know the details of her parents..ie Their names/their birth years-occupations etc etc. I would be eternally grateful if any one could help... Thankyou !

You need to order the birth certificate, and then her parents marriage certificate. Record offices do not hold birth records they only hold marriage, burial & baptism.

Andrew On the BMD index it only gives the mothers maiden name post 1911, it does not give parents first names, for that you have to order the certificate. Keith

Did she marry? If so, her marriage cert. would show her age and her father's occupation. It's always best to work back from known facts. Gwyn

Andrew They are only the index's you have to order the certificates using the reference that I gave (9c 285). Certificates are £7 and you can order them online at www.gro.gov.uk.

Willow Report 18 Nov 2006 14:09

You can order this one after the birth certificate I think its her parents marriage (Q2) 1920 Richard Makinson & Caroline Moss Wigan 8c 164 After you have this marriage certificate you will be able to look at the 1901 census as you will know Richard and Caroline's dads names occupations etc

Willow Report 18 Nov 2006 14:25

Yes you must order the birth certificate first, then the parents marriage, otherwise you could end up on a wild goose chase.

Andrew Report 18 Nov 2006 14:36

I will order Marians birth cert and her parents marriage cert has you advised.I have been struggling to get much info on my mums ancestors as they were old when i was a younger and dont really know any of her side of the family.Marian died approx 3 years ago. On my faters side tho i hae had quite abit of luck in tracing ancestors back to 1525.If all my info is correct of course... Andy.

If you know Marian's name at death, you should be able to find it on the Ancestry index. Her date of birth will be shown, although this of course is only correct to the best knowledge of the informant. Gwyn
