Hi Can someone please help.... for sometime now I have been trying to find the parents of JOHN WILLIAM BROWN. b. 29.11.1818 Long Wittenham Berkshire. Have marriage cert. for him stating his father as John. Looked on IGI found submitted entry with same birth details. Mother's name could be Ann but not confirmed. Found him on 1851 census but already married. Then he came to South Australia in 1852 so not on any more census after that. would appreciate any help Cheers Colleen. |

Hi Colleen Have you managed to find him on the 1841 census? Would he still be with parents then or married? Do you know the year of marriage? The more info you give the more likely it is that people will be able to help, Lorraine |

Hi Jim Yes that is him. But he has a tendancy to change his age. On the shipping list when he came to South Australia in 1851 he is listed as being 31. |

Tracy Well thats what i thought too but the mother of those boys was Anne Tyrrell b. 1805. Seems a bit young to his mother |

Not if he wasn't born in 1818, but in 1825 :) He may have lied on the passenger manefesto, or on the census. What's his age on the marriage cert? |

The birthdate of 1818 has appeared on various sources over here in South Aust. so I presume it is correct. I found it on IGI submitted by a member as well. |

It may be that the IGI have rotated what they show on the site. They do that from time to tim. It would be a good idea to see the original records for his baptism. The user submitted one may be wrong. It may even have been done by a relation in Australia. |
