I have just received a marriage certificate for Florence Booth who aged 20 in June 1910 shows up as Dec Qtr 1899 FreeBMD. Her father is given as John Booth. Please could someone lookup the 1891 census for them? Many thanks, Frances

Hi Georgina & Barbara. Georgina, from what you have found, Florence, father John, can only come from Sheffield and not be the one Barbara and I found in Leeds. John Booth's occupation is given as Moulder. The marriage was on 4th June 1910 in Burley Parish Church, Leeds, to Harry Geldard Dixon. Thanks, Frances

I have been looking in the 1881 for Olive Booth in Sheffield, aged 27 and I have found a family with a son George aged 8 and a daughter Ellen aged 3 but the father is given as George!! I cannot see any other Olives (not a very common name) Frances

Frances what were the witnesses names on the marriage certificate? If John Booth was a Moulder on her marriage certificate I am wondering if he is the one with a Daughter Cordelia because his profession is Blacksmith & a Moulder usually works with Iron. Georgina.

O.K. Georgina - just when the Olive one was looking interesting! The witnesses were William Tate (it looks like) and Clara McCormick, does that help? Frances

Georgina

Georgina Report 9 Oct 2006 10:55

Frances I was hoping that one of the witnesses was a family member, you could send for Cordelia's marriage certificate & see if her father has the same occupation as Florence's. What address did Florence give on the marriage certificate? Marriages Jun 1904 Booth Cordelia Sheffield 9c 1020 Langcaster Lily Sheffield 9c 1020 Phoenix George William Sheffield 9c 1020 Priestley James Sheffield 9c 1020 Georgina.

I have just been looking at Florence, Cordelia's sister, who would be born Mar Qtr 1889 in FreeBMD which would make her 21 when she got married wouldn't it?

Frances

Frances Report 9 Oct 2006 11:03

Georgina, Florence's address on her marriage certificate is 51 Stansfield Row (no longer showing in Leeds A-Z) Frances

Georgina, do you have an occupation for the other John, married to Olive, please. Some people managed to change professions at critical moments in my experience! Frances

In the 1901 census both the Sheffield Florence are still in Sheffield and the Leeds one is in Leeds. Could the Leeds one have a father John in the 1901 perhaps? Frances

Georgina

Georgina Report 9 Oct 2006 11:26

Frances this is getting really confusing LOL. The John married to Olive in 1891 is a Coal Miner, I then searched for him in 1901 and he has changed his name to George but his occupation is a Iron Moulder in a machine shop? Looks promising, what do you think? Georgina.

Frances

Frances Report 9 Oct 2006 11:37

Georgina confusing is spot on. Florence's dates just don't quite tally but perhaps she was so excited at getting married she forgot how old she was - lol. I am doing this research for a friend so I think I need to ask if her mother knows whether Florence did in fact come from Sheffield and the do a search for a John George or George John with an elder brother George! I have to go now but thanks for all your efforts. Frances
