Does anyone know what civil parish this would have been listed under around 1853?

Jools

Jools Report 30 Jul 2006 09:42

Thanks. I have Bermondsey listed as the birth parish on the bmd, however having checked the 1861 census for the birth several London places are showing but I have no idea whether they're in/around Bermondsey. Would checking a modern A-Z help? I'm a bit geographically challenged when it comes to London.

Mary - why not give us the names/ages/places of birth of child & parents & we'll see what we can find. The more that look the better chance of finding them.

Don't know if it will help but have the following 1837 - 1869 could be listed as Bermondsey or sometimes St Mary Magdalene Bermondsey 1870 - 1901 listed as St Olave Southwark 1901 - 1913 St Olave Southwark 1913 - to date Bermondsey Diane

Thanks Jools I'm trying to find the parents names from the census' but this is what I have. Louisa Richards bn c1853 1901 census shows her living with her spouse Edward with 4 sons. It lists her birth place as Bermondsey, London. Her marriage to Edward was in Apr 1/4 1879 St Olave Dianna x

Richards is her maiden name - Parker is the married name. Diane - thanks for the info - it gives more weight that the marriage is the right one. Dianna x

Me too - just checked images. Edward Parker & Louisa Richards are both 1d 366. So why have freebmd transcribed Louisa as 1d 365? Just makes me wonder, because I thought the 1d 365 Louisa looked like she married the Charles Gould (found a possible on 1881 - have a look at RG11; Piece: 199; Folio: 55; Page: 40)

Definitely both say pg 366 - just zoomed in on the registers. Thanks to your info Jools I had no idea Bermondsey is Surrey - I have a possible for Louisa's family in 1871. George A and Annie R. Louisa's age is mistranscribed as 19 when it should read 11 but her birth place just lists Surrey. What's your opinion, I'd value your expert eye? Do you think it could be them? Thanks Dianna

Jools Report 30 Jul 2006 10:40

What 1871 entry are you looking at?? I would have expected her to be showing as 18 or 19 on the 1871 if she was born c1853 Are you looking at 1861 instead??

Many N's Report 30 Jul 2006 10:50

Louisa and Charles have the wrong named children for my tree. Mine are Albert, Frederick, Leonard and Percival As for the freebmd - I try to use it as little as possible as I've found loads of mistakes, not to mention info just omitted. I don't have the marriage cert yet but Percivals birth cert lists Louisa's maiden name as Richards. The 1d 366 is the only match between Parker and Richards I can find in the registers between 1855 and 1898

Jools

Jools Report 30 Jul 2006 10:51

Ahh, found the 1871 you were looking at. Sorry but I think she is 11 not 19. I think you need to order that 1d 366 marriage certificate in order to get her father's name.
