her maiden name comes from checking robert's birth and then the other children,so i am pretty sure it is gardner, and his name is edmund, and not edward have checked 1837 but cannot match them up..thank you all

ErikaH Report 17 Jul 2006 16:51

As she is not on 1871 census, where did you get the info about Louisa's birthplace? Reg

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 17 Jul 2006 16:52

I've looked on 1861....these are the only Louisa Gardners with a Somerset connection. Is one of these the correct person? Reg

Can't seem to find a death for Louisa in Bath between 1870 and 1871. Rose

Edmund/Edward and Edwin get mixed up all the time on documentation - that alone wouldnt bother me too much. Louisa is evident on 1881 census Ada Evans abt 1876 Bath, Somerset, England Daughter Walcot Somerset Albert Evans abt 1870 Bath, Somerset, England Son Walcot Somerset Annie Evans abt 1869 Bath, Somerset, England Daughter Walcot Somerset Edmund Evans abt 1831 Bridgewater, Somerset, England Head Walcot Somerset Edmund J. Evans abt 1866 Bath, Somerset, England Son Walcot Somerset George Evans abt 1877 Bath, Somerset, England Son Walcot Somerset Louisa Evans abt 1844 Bath, Somerset, England Wife Walcot Somerset Robert W. Evans abt 1868 Bath, Somerset, England Son Walcot Somerset Walter Evans abt 1873 Bath, Somerset, England Son Walcot Somerset

ErikaH Report 17 Jul 2006 22:49

So the marriage to Louisa was after 1871 census...........and before 1881. Edmond is clearly shown as a widower in 1871........as I stated earlier. Reg

Okay, I think this might explain it - from Bath BMD: Bath Marriage indexes for the years: 1863 Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference GARDNER Louisa CAREY Banfield Bath, St Thomas a Beckett, Widcombe Bath C25/3/146 Bath Marriage indexes for the years: 1864 Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference CAREY Louisa EVANS Edmond Bath, St Thomas a Beckett, Widcombe Bath C25/3/203 Now we just need a death for Banfield Carey... Kate.

Sandra - on the children's birth certificates it probably says mother's name 'Louisa Evans, late Carey, formerly Gardner' but Bath BMD only put one surname in the 'mother's maiden name' on their index. And Gardner was her maiden name. Kate.
