Anyone good with unusual names? Please take a look at the 1871 RG10/1739, Folio 105, Page 3. I would like to know what the name of the second son is please. I can't believe it's Janiny as Ancestry seem to think it is! Jeanette x

Hi Heather and Jeanette By 1881 Dad has died and Mum remarried.........he's not with her. Just started on this family so haven't had a look for him yet as he is not the direct line.

There are several Janinys on Ancestry.........however, the first letter of the name of 'yours' looks more like an 'I', when compared to other 'J's on the same page. The eldest one's name is not very clear, either...... Reg

Donna Do you think that could explain the other odd names too. So there could be some German or Czech history somewhere! Just got to pop out to school!

Donna That's brilliant! Thankyou This is my hubby's paternal line. His Dad died many years ago so I'm a bit in the dark about any of their history.

I think the names come from the mother, i had a look at Alfred Noble and he seems pretty ' British' . In the 1861 their first child has the same intials as the mother ( middle name), if you could order their wedding cert then you would see what her maiden name was, and then you could trace her family. What do you think? Donna x

Jeanette

Jeanette Report 21 Mar 2006 17:23

i think their first child Alfred O is going by his middle name in 1871 Ollett Jeanette there seems to be a lot of them with O as middle name on Ancestry

I did have a quick look on FreeBMD and found this marriage Dec quarter 1858 Hoxne 4a 1221 Alfred Noble to Harriett Brett Now Brett sounds as thought it may be foreign, or an anglicised version of a foreign name. What do you think? I think the cert is probably the best way forward as you say
