As I said a minute ago, the father doesn't sign at all (unless he is a witness). The father's name is written in by the vicar or registrar. But yes, it could be the name of her stepfather. If you can get a look at the actual parish records entry for that baptism I found on the IGI there is a chance it may have more information. Kate.

The only people who sign on a marriage cert are the bride and groom, the witnesses, and the person officiating. I guess you aren't married................. Reg
