Val, There's 16 James Gilchrist's in the whole of Scotland in 1861 between the ages of 18 and 22 so without a place name to narrow it down it would take 80 credits to search and I'm sorry I've only got 5 left now. Sorry Val, Em x

Betty Boo - the only Lanchester I know is in County Durham - which borders North Yorkshire. No trouble x

Hi Emma, Its me again, just a question, as you come from Yorkshire, can you tell me where Lanchester is, is it Yorkshire? I am looking for a marriage but don't know where Lanchester is! Sorry for all this bother. Betty Boo

Thank you, this is very kind! I have James GILCHRIST a marine fireman (stoker / toolman) he is 41 in the 1881 (b abt 1839-41) census in Liverpool married to my 2x gt-grandmother. His birthplace is simply given as Scotland but on his marriage certificate he lists his father as: James Gilchrist a shoemaker. James junior was in Liverpool from around 1865 when he married so you may find him in the Scottish 1861 if he wasn't at sea or you might be lucky enough to find his shoemaker father, lol. I tried last year without success but they have now added an earlier census so hopefully you might find him via his father. Thank you for any snippet you may find and for simply taking the time to look ;-)) Regards Val.

Betty Boo - Births only go up to 1905. If you go to the home page it tells you what records are available. I think it's quite simple to use - first time I've used it today. I bought the minimum credits £6 for 30 - used 2 on myself and I was finished, hence putting them on here. I found what I was looking for straight away but haven't been able to help anyone else unfortunately !! Em

Leah, I've looked under Robert and Catherine for both surname spellings and both the 91 and 01 census and none of them are coming up with the right family members. Really sorry - not having much luck today. Em x

Emma Report 12 Jan 2006 15:13

Shona, I've searched under Jane Hogg and William (all surnames) for Fife, covering all districts and covering all years - and none have come up with a surname remotely like that. I'm really sorry I couldn't help. Em

Shona

Shona Report 12 Jan 2006 15:10

Hi Emma, Yes that is his name although not sure of the exact spelling but that is how the name is spelt on the census. regards Shona

Emma Report 12 Jan 2006 15:08

Shona, You didn't by any chance mean the district Auchterderran in Fife did you? Is that definately his surname? Em

Emma

Emma Report 12 Jan 2006 15:02

Joan, I'm sorry I'm not coming up with anything. It's comes up with nine Andrew Taylors for the whole of Scotland for that year. None of the ages tally with your Andrew and none are Aberdeen. Really sorry I couldn't help. Em

Joan - 9 possibles but none for Aberdeen. Do you have a rough age at time of death?
