Hi Holly Thanks for the offer. I am trying to find some information on my Great Aunt Mary B. Murray who went to America in 1888. Someone has found her on the 1920 and 1930 census living in New York. She was born in Scotland but moved to england as a girl. In the 1920 census she is listed as Mary Nelson. We knew that she married someone called Nelson but never knew his christian name. It says she is widowed and has 5 children living with her. David age 26 born in Pennsylvania James age 19 born in New York Florence age 18 born in New York Luke age 16 born in New York Francis age 14 born in New York It says that the place of birth of the father was Pennsylvania so Mary might have married there and moved to new york later on. On the 1930 census she has 2 children living with her Luke Frank the place is Manhattan , New York. Is it possible to go further back to earlier census where it might give her husbands name. Any help would be much appreciated. Marlene

Thank you for the offer. Bit of a long shot this, but worth a try if you’ve got time. Can you try 1910 & 1900 for a Lora June Byers b. 1896 in Indiana. Would love to know her parents details. I have a gt uncle who emigrated in 1887 – Rosemary very kindly found me the census returns for his family 1890 - 1930. He had a son Stanley Richardson b. 1895 who married a lady called Lora. Stanley was born in Missouri. On the 1920 census they are in Calumet township, Lake, Indiana. (No children) His obit gives his widow’s name as Lora Byers Richardson, which is why I think Byers is her maiden name. So if you can find her for me that would be great.

Thank you for your kind offer. I'm trying to find out any information on 'John Walter Burtt'. His marriage certificate (Australian) states his birth place as Philadelphia, born approx. 1842. States parents as Samuel Alfred Burtt and Eliza (nee Morris). Married in Australia in 1869. Maybe arrived in 1864 onboard the Champion of the Sea (can't be sure of this). Occupation coach builder. Haven't been able to find any information about his American family at all. Are you able to help? Regards and thanks Lewella

Hi Vicky, I first went to 1900 as 1910 is only indexed by head and got in Washington, Boone, Indiana. Lafayette Byers wife Elvira and 6 sons and 2 daughters: John, Orange, Carl, Wilfred, Warren, David, Jessie & LORA J. Its quite a lot of info so i have uploaded image: www.geocities(.)com/suffolklookup/byers1900 I then went to 1910 and found them under Buyers. Listed are Lafayette, Elvira, Jessie and Lora. Intrestingly it states Elvira had 10 kids, 9 still alive. www.geocities(.)com/suffolklookup/buyers1910 1920 finds Lafayette and Elvira with two borders: www.geocities(.)com/suffolklookup/byers1920 Couldnt find either in 1930, so I decided to go back and I found the marriage of Lafayette and Elvira: Elvira McCoy LaFayette Byers 6 Oct 1869 Putnam Cty Indiana On the census front: The 1880 finds Lafayette with Elvira and a daughter Carrie and 3 sons: John, Orange and Bertie as well as a niece and a servant www.geocities(.)com/suffolklookup/byers1880 1870 there is L Byers with wife E L. listed everything points to this being them: www.geocities(.)com/suffolklookup/byers1870 1860 has 21 year old Lafayette with father David and Mother Rachael as well as 2 sisters and 2 brothers: Louisa, James, Thomas & Clarinda. Note: Another Byers family is also on same sheet: www.geocities(.)com/suffolklookup/byers1860 The 1850 census has 10 year old Lafayette with David and Rachael and siblings: Almira, Amanda, Jane, James and Jefferson. www.geocities(.)com/suffolklookup/byers1850 Hope this helps, Holly
