I have a Charles Hamblin born 1850 in Maisemore, Gloucester but i cannot find him on the 1871, 81 or 91 census. The only death of a Charles Hamblin that i can find that matches is in 1899 aged 49 in Gloucester. Would anyone be able to give me some ideas to where he could be on these 3 censuses at all? He was in Maisemore aged 11 with parents Charles and Mary in 1861. Thanks, Matt

Or second marriage? Hi, I ve got to shoot out now. But Ive been looking and there is a lot of Hamblins from Maismore living in Gloucester arent there? I noticed two who may be siblings or close rellies of his and they both work for Great Western Railways. Is it possible your guy also worked for them. I saw his death in Gloucester at age 49. It may be he was away on the census nights?

No positive information for you, but you can discount the 1881 Census of Scotland from your searches - he's not showing there under any variant of the name that I can think of...

Hi Heather, I think those railway people are rellies. Ive seen something somewhere about that. Its just my luck that he was away on census night for 3 years running. Mind you i cant find his brother Thomas on anything either. There are loads of Hamblin's in Maisemore. Regards, Claire

Thanks John. I would have been very shocked if he had turned up in Scotland, hehe. Regards, Matt

Get ready.................. On 1891 there is a Charles Hambling wrongly transcribed as Charles Hannah - goodness knows why - think this enumerator was well and truly pi***d!! This Charles is 40 Single and born Maisemore. He is a baker and I am sure he is your man. Living in Household of George and Mary Strong and recorded as Brother in Law. Send me your Email address and see what you think. Tricia

Hi, just got back - and you know what I was going to suggest checking out a Strong household as I noticed a grandaughter called Strong living with Charles parents!! Mary Strong must be Charles' sister. I also noticed they have another grandaughter, Emily Hamblin living with them. It must have been some sort of arrangment with their kids, wonder why? Im sure that must be him. Well done Tricia.

If,as you suspect, these Strong people belong in your tree, this is the family in 1881. I was hoping to find Charles. If he were single at 40 in 1891 then it is possible that marriage in 1895 is him then.

If he married in 1895 there should be a lady Hamblin as Head in 1901. It could be this lady. You would need to send for birth cert to verify father 1901 England Census records matching your search for All Records > Census > 1901 England Census Arthur C Hamblin 4 Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England Son Gloucester Gloucestershire Mary A Hamblin 38 Goodrich, Herefordshire, England Head Gloucester Gloucestershire She is confectitioner and one of the marriage names Living 56 Westgate Street Gloucester.
