Esta i have had a quick look on ancestry and as well as your 1859 Lionel there was also an 1857 Lionel Brook born in Rougham, suffolk. He is 44 in the 1901 census. Could this be the same guy but with the wrong age in 1871? Sarah |

Recently descovered that from 1881-1901 Lionel was a policeman in London ( makes a change from labourers who couldn't read or write !! )......I'm hoping to find some sort of service record for him. But I need as much info on him as possible as proof he was an ancester........Your help is appreciated - Thank you all very much Esta |

Lou I appreciated you checking for me .........Please don't use any more of you credit.......it'll cost you a fortune..:) The family name is BROOK but on the census' it has been down as BROOKS. BROOKES, BROCK - On 1891 Lionel was even transcribed as Leona Brooks, Best Wishes Esta |

This has me fascinated now! I have looked for all the Brook, Brooks, Brookes, Brock born in Suffolk from 1856-1859 on Ancestry and can't find any sign of him. No wonder it's taken you all afternoon Esta! Sarah |

Esta Most of the images for those years are free cos there's not the best quality. So I can't deny I MAY have missed him, although I've looked at Brook, Brooke and Brooks and couldn't see anything obvious. I'm thinking a parish registers look up request????? Lou |

Sarah / Lou Thanks for trying - This whole family has been a bit of a pain but it's all been good fun. As I was interested in Lionel occupation his birth was the last bit of the puzzle I need for him......but he must be some where, so I'll find him eventually...!! Happy New Year to you both Esta |
