Thank you Jo and Linda I have a lot of research to do in scotland and I'm sure the Cd's will prove very useful, so I'm going to spend a few more pennies and who knows in a couple of years I might be doing the "stirling" work your doing. I thank not only you, but everybody that has helped me and I hope one day I can post my success story on the board along with the others. And Ladies if ever you need help in your searches I would be only too happy to put my limited experience at your service. Best regards Geoff |

Must be having a bad day. Would have sworn I had just posted a message about this but it didnt show up. I had a look at the LDS web site last night and it doesnt look as though you can purchase 1881 Census for Scotland separately. Just as part of the overall package. There is an LDS web site which gives a British telephone number where you can ring up and order. The 1881 Census is reference no. 50169000. Think it cost me about twenty somthing pounds and is worth every penny. Sorry about the duff info about George - must have had the wrong glasses on (or head). Happy hunting. Linda |

The Discs I have are the LDS 1881 but it includes Scotland, Wales, Channel Isles, Isle of Man and the royal navy. My Aunty bought me them to help me get started, there are other ways for searching than on the web site. Not sure how much they cost but I like them! |

Jo You're a treasure I shall run through all those searches and see if I can find a match, you've certainly worked hard on my behalf for which I'm so grateful. I shall get back to you when I've studied them, tomorrow, I'm really busy today. Just as a matter of interest I did ask in one of my postings where I could purchase CD's on Scotland's Genealogy and if they were worth it, do you have an opinion on this? Your help as always is greatly appreciated. Geoff |

Linda, I'm sure it says that George Todd Gray born 1897 so he wouldn't be born in 1881. It's that or my eyes are playing me up, looking too much at the screen!!! |

Geoff - I've had a look at all George Grays born in Scotland between 1875 and 1881 and couldnt find any with parents called John and Margaret. There was a John and Annie with children George and John. Also a John and Jane, with children Peter, Lily, George and Jessie. Both fit the time scale for the marriage. If I can help further just let me know. Happy hunting. |

Thanks once again Jo Not really any more to go on, I have calculated that John Gray had 13 children from 1875 -1897 when my granfather was born, and in my estimation he could have had two or three children by 1881. Don't know if John had brothers or sisters himself, this has got me really stumped and I don't know where to go from here! I appreciate your efforts. X and Linda I would be grateful for any help at the moment because I think I've found my brick wall! LOL. Thank you both x Geoffx |

I've had a look again for telegraph officers, there is one called Alexander Gray? Looking at the dates too I don't think George would have been about in 1881 because you said his birth was 1897. Anything else you can think of? |

Many thanks Margaret and Jo, I've had the same problem, name very common. I'm afraid its not any of the ones you traced but thank you both very much for your time and your attempts to help. The John Gray I am looking for was a telegraph officer and would have had a George Gray (my grandfather) as a son. John lived in Glasgow all his life but my grandfather who lived in 49 Crail Street Parkhead (was the youngest of 13 children) moved to Dunfermline. My father also George Gray was born in Crail Street in 1921, died 1949. As for the marriage date I got that from an aunt who remembers her mother mentioning it, no cert I'm afraid. I have even been to Edinburgh about 6 yrs ago but failed to find anything. Just as a matter of interest, as I have a lot of searching to do in Scotland can I purchase Cd's if so how much and where from? Thanks once again for your interest I hope I can return the compliment sometime. Geoff |

Hi Jo, I went with the ones with the younger children as they only married in 1875. But who knows, like many, they might have married long after the event/s :o)) Regards Margaret |
