errrrr,

again that isn't always the truth!!!

brides and grooms are known to have lied about their age on the marriage certificate!

thoguht they were too old or too young for the spouse.

may be actually under age, so added a couple of years.

Then of course, they make up the name of their father, and/or his occupation.

don't believe everything!

if your order it online use his dads name thomas as a ref check and if it has a diff dads name on they will only charge £3. not sure if you can use the ref check on phone order.

Stamford is just to the north of Peterborough. Looking at the 1891 image, I don't think the pob is Fairford. I think it says Stamford.

That's exactly right, Sylvia. I'm having trouble waking up this morning. Even my explanation didn't make sense.

Back to Fairford/Stamford. If you look at the way St Albans is written for daughter Susan, you see the St is very similar to the beginning of George's pob. If you realize the 'F' is an 'St' then the 'air' is easily 'am'. Does that make sense or am I still groggy?

Ozi.

ps,

i think ozi meant it was too early in the morning for her!

in other words she hadn't read the title of the thread completely!

The marriage certificate has nothing to do with the time when he was born!

it's not proof of anything, except that they did get married!

He could have been born years and years before (or after)!

You might have to expand the years over which you are searching.

1891:
Name: George Crampton
Spouse: Saima
Birth: abt 1853 - city, Northamptonshire, England
Residence: 1891 - city, London, England

cant see him in 1871.

this might be him....(dont think hes too early ozbird. this would match up with 3 census's)

Births Dec 1852
CRAMPTON George Stamford 7a _45

The 1847 one is not correct because I have followed that one through to 1901 so I suppose my only hope is the other one in 1852 but its always worried me due to it not being Peterborough.

I know he was born about 1852 because of the marriage certificate which hasn't been transcribed by someone but is actually an original.

thanks all

jen yorkshire

jen yorkshire Report 27 Sep 2007 20:51

hes on the 1901 as abt 1848 Peterborough, Huntingdonshire

Lisa

Lisa Report 27 Sep 2007 20:50

think this could be him in 1901 - dates slightly out?

living St Pancras

George Crampton 53 Hunts Peterborough Navvy
Emma Crampton 56 Wood Neiot
Frank Crampton 18 London St Pancras Labourer
Harry Crampton 15 London St Pancras
Beatrice Crampton 11 London St Pancras
George Crampton 7 London St Pancras

maybe this age is correct and the others were out - we could look for an earlier year for birth !? (just thinking aloud now...)

LesleyC

LesleyC Report 27 Sep 2007 20:48

Yes Lisa

That is the correct one - and also the correct marriage. Emma had married before to Thomas Wheatley but her husband died when their child Sarah was a few months old and then she married my GGG Grandfather.

CRAMPTON George Stamford 7a _45

The district Stamford spans the boundaries of the counties of Huntingdonshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland, but not Peterborough or Fairford as far as I can see.

It's 5:50 in the morning here.
