Find Ancestors

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone will be able to locate this family in 1891 and perhaps also in 1901-John Harold(or Harrold) ,born Scotland(Elgin) -land surveyor -aged 30 in 1881 when he was living in Greystoke Road,Penrith,Cumberland ,with wife Margaret (Gallon)-(age 29 in 1881)-also born Elgin,Scotland- and children John.G age 10 born Scotland,( Elgin)William A. age 8,born Scotland (Stirling),son Thomas age 6 born Cheshire and daughter Helena E. age 2 born Cheshire.Margaret died in 1927 in Elgin so the family may have returned up north at some point.

The 1901 looks very likely.They must have had two more children in Penrith .Odd that William and the two younger ones ended up back in Stirling where his parents spent only a year or two in the 1870s.I'm not so sure about the mother being the servant in the 1891.My Margaret was born 1850.Any sign of Helena or Thomas in the 1891 in Cumberland? Yes I am not sure about them, there is this birth reference for a Mabel - although I don't know if she is your family,

Hi again Gail,
I've just found that Kirkbarrow,Barton was a large manor house not too far from Penrith so you could be right with Margaret.Could you possibly do another search in 1891 in Penrith please if you have a moment for her husband John Harrold.If it says married against Margaret's name then she should not be widowed.

I am just getting the births from Ancestry on freeBMD, there are no other details, it is just the index.

Wow.This is confusing.The Garnetts might all be Harolds or my Harolds might be living with a Garnett family as there are too many of them to be just the Harolds I think. John the father and John the son seem to be missing but William ,Thomas,Helena,Mabel and Wilfred are there with the mother Margaret.The extras are the William Garnett 42 and Jane Garnett 42 plus probably their children,Lilian,Myles and Stanley.I'd better try looking for them on the 1881.

I have deleted those now, all it is is a bad transcription on Ancestry, the Garnetts are the family above and are nothing to do with your family. It was just they have been transcribed by Ancestry as one big family.............I had to look at the actual image and sort out who was who and put a correct transcription up above for you to see..

See post above re Garnetts - cannot find John - so although Margaret is saying she is married on the 1901 I don't know if he is around or not. Perhaps someone else can find him.

Glitter Baby found your Thomas in 1901 so that only leaves Helena I think.............
