Selena and Reggie

You are both brilliant !!!!
I had spent days trying to find them .In fact I gave up a few years ago and only decided to tackle some of my brick walls recently !
Pity they kept altering the surname but then it wouldn' be so much fun if it was too easy

Thanks again
Kathy :-)

Just noticed that it looks like:

William Collmour married Emma Cutliff 1841
Elizabeth Colmour married John Cutliffe 1863

Strange?

Hi
I hope you don’t mind but I saw your thread and thought I would do some research at Barnstaple Records Office. As with your own findings, there have been numerous name spellings for this family but they have been quite easy to track.

Records are identified as Pilton Parish Records Fremington Parish Records

I have spelt each name as they are on the record/entry

This is what I have found:

Marriage

4th July 1841 WILLIAM COLLMOUR (shipwright) to EMMA CUTLIP or CUTLIF (servant)

I have since checked her on Ancestry and think she may be EMMA CUDLIP I found her on the 1841 census (need to check date of census against the marriage date) she was 20 years old then living in Stoke Dameral area, this is in S. Devon (Tamar area) but when checked the image her father was also a shipwright so this may be how she met WILLIAM.

Baptism

28th Feb 1842 WILLIAM COLLMOUR to William (shipwright) & Emma

14th Sept 1844 ELIZABETH ANN BEHEAMA to William & Emma

8th Aug 1849 JOHN to William & Emma

Burial

5th Nov 1852 EMMA COLMER age 32 (childbirth)

Marriage

12th Sept 1857 WILLIAM COLMOUR (shipwright) to MARY HARVEY (charwoman)

The census shows William senior as being born in Fremington (I think transcribed as Framington)

Baptism

28th May 1809 MARY COLMER to JOHN (blacksmith) & ANN

29th Dec 1816 WILLIAM COLMER to John/Ann

*12th Apr 1818 JOHN COLMER to John/Anne

2nd Jan 1820 LUCY COLMER to John/Ann

Marriage

** 8th Feb 1808 JOHN COLMORE to ANN BEHEANA (see William and Emma’s daughter Elizabeth)

Burial

!9TH July 1820 JOHN COLMORE age 34

* I found information for John whilst searching William.

Marriage

7th Jun 1840 JOHN COLLMOUR (shipwright) to SARAH TROUMP (lace maker)

Baptism

13th July 1845 SALLY COLMOUR to John/Sarah

baptism

** 15th Oct 1786 JOHN COLMER 1786 to William/Jane

I am afraid that I was then running out of time so these are further entries I found but was not able to cross check. I wlll give you the details and you can maybe work out which William is Johns father. If you would like me to try to find out further info please let me know and I will be happy to go back. I think Fremington records go back to 1602, as it is the next village to where I live it is quite interesting to follow local families. I see that John was a blacksmith I am sure there is Blacksmith Cottage there. When the weather gets better will have to stroll around the village

Birth

4th Dec 1760 WILLIAM COLMER (it appears from around this date they only put in fathers details ) father WILLIAM

I could not find marriage for him

Marriage

26th Jan 1758 WILLIAM H COLMER to JOAN SYMMONS

Burials

27th Jan 1864 DAVID COLMER

27th Nov 1768 WILLIAM COLMER

16th Aug 1772 MARY COLMER daughter of Jane

So I’m not sure if Joan and Jane are the same woman or if William born 1860 (more likely) married a Jane, but not in Fremington, might be worth checking IGI

Hope this helps although does not follow Williams sisters….maybe next time I’m in Barnstaple I’ll have a look!!!
