(previous link given is obsolete now)

census of Ireland of 1901 -
1901 Census material, with all data transcribed, launched on 3 June 2010.

In the Irish National Archives site, both the 1901 and the 1911 census are free, both to search and to download the images.

Rambling Report 30 May 2010 13:33

woo hoo Joy! Thanks, have been waiting for that :) not that it will tell me a great deal more probably, but interesting just the same to see whether there are any more in the family than appear in 1911 ( my gt grandfather was already over here before either of them )

Joy Report 30 May 2010 21:54

You're welcome :-)

Joy Report 1 Jun 2010 11:57

Two days to go :-)

Kathryn Report 1 Jun 2010 12:03

I am just itching to get my hands on this - it could plug a lot of gaps in my research. But what's the betting the site crashes instantly under the weight of all our curious gazes?!

Christina(Lancashire) Report 1 Jun 2010 12:13

Bookmarked with thanks. Can't wait :)

Sandra Report 1 Jun 2010 22:08

Thank you for letting us all know Joy, look forward to having a look.

Joy Report 2 Jun 2010 21:24

Again, you are most welcome :-)

Only a few hours to go now. How lucky we are to be able to see soon, absolutely free, the 1901 as well as the 1911 Irish census.

Jacqui Report 2 Jun 2010 21:34

Its live NOW.

Just been over there to look for something in 1911 and the 1901 search option is available.

Happy hunting

Joy Report 2 Jun 2010 21:45

Indeed :-)

Happy hunting :-)

Joy Report 2 Jun 2010 21:48

Brilliant!! It leads me to more extended family :-)

Jacqui Report 2 Jun 2010 22:26

Thats good Joy

Found 2 GG Grandfathers who were not around in 1911 alive and well in 1901 so now have just a 10 yr search window for deaths

Joy Report 3 Jun 2010 09:13

Very pleased for you :-)

My discovery (as often is the case) has led to more questions and searches :-)

Joy Report 3 Jun 2010 18:16

Brought forward for those researching their Irish ancestral family.

Sarah Report 3 Jun 2010 18:44

not working well for me at the mo, is that cos we're all trying to get on at once?!

Thistledown Report 3 Jun 2010 19:02

Afraid so Sarah, i think that it has crashed for a while with the volume of people trying to get on.
I was browseing it last night but there were some rellies on 1911 that i could not find on 1901.
Will have another look later hopefully though.

Joy Report 3 Jun 2010 19:40

Try again - working beautifully now.

Frances Report 4 Jun 2010 00:18

I've noticed a few blips on the spelling of place names, which somewhere in the FAQ's they say they'll get cleaned up but it makes it rather slow going when the entire town/village is spelt wrong eg Raboo instead of Raloo.
On the plus side I've narrowed a couple of dates and found a few 'vanished' people.
