Hi - I am eager to discover the parents and any siblings and children of Joseph Cubitt b 1797, (a Stockbroker) who married Catherine Ann Harvey. My findings show that they had two sons, Joseph S 1819 and Samuel 1824, also two daughters Fanny 1818 and Catherine 1822. Prior to my Search of the Cubitt Tree I was given an old handwritten plan of my Ancestors which indicates that the next descendant to Joseph was a Robert William b 1920 who married Anna Arnull. I have established however that Robert William had a brother Richard (born within a year of himself) whose father was George b 1793. I need to clarify how George and Joseph are connected, and as yet have been unsuccessful. Can anyone help? |

In 1841 your Robert William is working in a Drapers shop in Leicester Square while the other Robert is still at home with his parents George and Ann. |

Hi Chris - whilst the information you gave was very helpful and informative, I am yet again struggling to find any information on the Joseph (unknown middle name) Cubitt who was born in 1797 who became a stockbroker. I can find no records that go back thus far.....are there any? My interest is Joseph's birthplace, parents and siblings. Can you help or point me in the right direction? Many thanks. |

There's a tree on Ancestry with Joseph and a picture of him. It seems he had a brother Sir William Cubbit and this tree goes back to 1515 !!!!!!! |

Well MFG, you have been busy! However I still cannot piece the information together. I too saw the picture of Joseph and the amazing moustache looking very distinguished! The trouble is that the Cubitts are very vast and as a result I have wandered off in three directions! (Currently I have three trees or should I say branches). So easily done though, their names were passed down through generations and they are widespread too. On one 'diversion' I had collated information on a Joseph who married Hannah Lubbock and they had a Son, William who was Knighted. He married Abigail Sparkhall and in turn they had a son Joseph in 1811 (who also became a stockbroker) he died in 1872. |

I have quite a lot on Joseph Cubitt b 1797 Middsx and Robert who did marry Anna Arnull. I am descended from Robert's son Charles. I am having a lot of difficulty tracing Joseph back further as I have found no evidence of his birth in Middlesex nor have I any convincing evidence of who his father was. There is a school of thought which places Joseph Cubitt as a younger son of a Joseph Cubitt of Bacton, Dilham, Norfolk. A more famous son of this Bacton Joseph Cubitt was Sir William Cubitt, the engineer. However this line conflicts with the assertion in both the 1841 and 1851 that my Joseph was baptised (and most probably born) in Middlesex! I will see what I can find on Richard and George |
