What is the significance of the X in the end column on the census image? ..Is it just a checking mark? ....Looking at William PEAKE the visitor...... Reference below.

I am only guessing but the crosses do not appear to be indications of disability. They look too random to me. Liz

it's because they are not Locals, notice all the others are and haven't got marks next them, so happily they weren't Imbeciles Lol:)))

Hello They are the only ones born in Gloucestershire the rest on the page are from Herefordshire. Or they could be handicapped in some way. Pam

Many thanks for looking and for your input. I just forwarded a few pages on the images and saw more X. It would seem that the X signifies that they were not of that county. I hadn't realised that information was required to be logged. So pleased to find those old JONES' that they were visiting. It meant I could confirm they were my 4 X Great grandparents, - daughter Jane married William Peak. Thank you for your help. Gwyn
