On the old Genes format if I had a date of birth but it was unverified (one I got from the Latterday Saints, or from someone who wasn't sure) I'd put it in and tick the circa box. However if I had NO IDEA when the person was born (especially before 1700) and no idea when his parents or children were born either, I'd just put an 0 in the box. This worked. the new Genes format won't accept that. It insists you GUESS a date before it'll let you input any information at all. I've spent several hours trying different ways to get round this. I don't want stab in the dark guesses on my tree. With a large tree I need an easy way to see which relatives I need to research. As 17th century female ancestors could have married in their early teens, and gone on to have children until the menopause making a wrong guess could throw out all my searches. I've written to Genes suggesting they put an 'unknown' box in, which would solve all the problems. Has anyone else found a way round this? I'd be very grateful for any suggestions!

Hi Lesley, I am still using the old tree programme, as I can't seem to get my head round the new one and as has already been said on a thread some of the old counties are not in the drop down box. All the rellies that that I put in yesterday via the old programme have been placed correctly. Mags:)
