Bev, good for you not moaning about working Christmas. I used to love working then. My OH once had a moan, until I asked him if he wanted the patients to look after themselves!

Pleased you like your shifts. I always wonder what other people in care think about Christmas shifts. This year, the first for a few years, I had Christmas Day, Boxing day and the next 2 days off (weekend) But I am now doing a very short shift boxing day 9am - 1pm and am on call on the saturday, so that bad at all XX Hope you enjoy your christmas XX..

I am looking forward to Christmas Day..... we will play a few carols, have a sing a long, couple of glasses of wine (medication permitting), eat alot of choccies and have a thoroughly enjoyable time!! Got a few things up my sleeve to make sure our residents enjoy themselves!
My other half is going to come down for a few hours as well so it should be good!

So nice to hear somebody not moaning about their work. I am sure the patients will be happy because you are happy. It sounds as if it is a nice place to work.

Glad you are on with your shifts Bev - I hope my staff are as pleased tomorrow when I put our rota out.............just before I run out of the door lol.
The worst shift to cover is the late Christmas day.

I hope you have a lovely Christmas and that your residents enjoy your efforts.

I remember one year, when I like you worked in a similar setting, I decided if I had to work Christmas day, my youngest was coming with me and I would dress up as santa, for the staff, we (me and Son) ended up as Santa and his helper, we toured the nursing floor with presents and good wishes, and the phone kept ringing, it was staff from the residential floor calling for santa and his helper, we delighted so masny people, but I took my Santa suit off, and removed the pillow, and my oh! so white uniform was stained red, but hey they enjoyed it X ho ho ho XX those were the days my friend XX..

I work in a sheltered housing scheme and am working 8.30am to 1.30pm on Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Years Day, but have managed to get some holidays in this year. I will be off from 27th to 31st.

Don't mind too much working at Christmas, but would much rather be with my family.

What would these folk do without you good souls working over Christmas! Hope you all enjoy yourselves as well as working and that you get some time to be with your loved ones too.

I have Christmas Day and Boxing Day off this year, then work over New Years, always 3-11pm. also in a home for the aged.
I have never minded working Christmas day, and my children grew up understanding that ill people need care 24/7 and it's right to take my turn. There is a lot of happiness to share - unfortunately perhaps, families think it's nice to treat the staff, and we end up with 3 months supply of chocs. The thought is much appreciated by our hearts not our waistlines LOL. Last year one family brought in a huge fruit basket, which was just the ticket.
Lonely residents are so happy to see familiar faces on Christmas day when they have no visitors.

I remember when i was nursing, one grateful relative brought us all baby-doll nighties,,!! Another uselful gift was pairs of tights, One year w e had so many tins of chocolates that the ward sister raffled some off to make funds for some new equipment we needed on the ward,
