My gt gt g'father was in the 2/25th batallion based here in 1861 but what type of batallion I don't know. Does anyone know what part of the army this could have been? Jac |

Have you got this from the 1861 census? If you go back page by page to the first entry for the officers before him, the regiment might well be given. What was his name? |

Having just looked on the 1861, it was a James Smith who was born in Heligoland and who was in the 2/25th. I thought you were looking for Abraham Hook???? |

No - sorry that was the reply to the message saying check for an officer on a different page. My rel is James Smith but I had only printed the one page and Abraham Hook was the only officer. Sorry again Jac. |

The officers are on the first page but not possible to say which regiment they are in, either from the census or the London Gazette. |
