Glasgow is "Buzzing" LadyScozz,
Things you don't hear about?

OH's nephew owns a Scottish Gift shop in the city centre which we expect, should do really well during the games
It's just a small family run shop but during the next few weeks, all the stores in Glasgow City Centre have delivery restrictions in place.
One delivery only per week/ between midnight and 4am only/ and all deliveries must be completed within 30 minutes!
He has no idea what will be the best seller, or what he should stock-up on, but the same restrictions also apply to the much larger outlets like Debenhams, M&S etc.

By the end of the week, the shops will be empty of stock!

Glasgow is always buzzing, so it must be humming :-D

I hope the shops have big store-rooms. It will be difficult for small cafes, imagine how many soft drinks they will be selling, and that's just one item!

Touristy stuff? Thinking back to when I was looking........... I wanted small things, so that I could get something for "everybody at home" that wouldn't take up much space in my suitcase. The most difficult was finding things for babies........ I would have loved a few tartan bibs :-) :-D

Insomnia has struck again..........but I started feeling sleepy about 30 minutes ago....... now I'm making myself stay awake so I can watch the opening ceremony..... two hours to go............. that's a lot of FreeCell games lol

I remember the ice-cream vans that came around when I was a child (left Scotland when I was 12), we were lucky to get a cone, but the adults got a special... and I'm thinking the name isn't PC these days..... a choc-coated wafer with marshmallow on one side, a plain wafer on the other, vanilla icecream inside......... it was called "A Black Man" ! If it's still sold, what's it called now?

We called them Single Nougat or Double Nougat LadyScozz.
Single has ice cream sandwiched between a mallow and chocolate wafer on one side and an ordinary wafer on the other.
Double when it's 2 mallow ones

Why are they called Nougat? Is there nougat mixed in the marshmallow? lol

I remember being teased at school because I pronounced nougat the right way. Was told I was "posh" because I didn't say "nugget". lolololol

LadyScozz - we asked for either a single or double chocolate wafer (Nougat Wafers), my mum always preferred a chocolate oyster though ;-)

Born in England to a a Scottish Father and English Mother. We moved north when I was five Scotland is home my fathers roots here and so my roots here go back more than 200 years and I can't imagine living anywhere else.

OFITG ~ ! I'd forgotten about oysters. I never had one (we were always told they were for adults!).

A single cone....... if we were really lucky we got raspberry on it.

Bill ~ I don't think Robert the Bruce (22xgreat-grandad) had a tartan......... but the Bruce clan will now.

As a Scot living in England for the last 51 years, I still consider myself Scottish and still crave for Scottish food and the various ice creams.
I used to enjoy the cones which were dipped in a tub of hundreds and thousands and/or the chocolate equivalent.

Scotland is to be congratulated, on the Best orginized games. They are Faltless.
Must have cost a few bob, but they will get it back in Tourist dollars.
The weather has been helping of course.
We have an Idiot journalist here who is putting on a pretend Scots accent, and virtually putting the scots down.

Did anyone watch the secret history of our streets on BBC2?

It was all about Glasgow's Duke street and how much of it was saved in the 1970's.
I lived in Bathgate street during the early 1970s. It was interesting to see inside the old tenements

He mispronounced just about everything Scottish.

I'm surprised nobody has complained about it.

If a tv person tried to imitate some nationalities, he/she would be accused of being racist!

I am going to the Closing Ceremony at Hampden Park on Sunday Evening

I got a text tonight from my long time friend reminding me that she is taking taking part in the event.
I text back,reminding her that I will be there on Sunday and will look out for her.
What will you be doing? Will I see you in the crowd? I ask

Her reply is ..... I will not be able to MISS her because she has been given a "Very Priviledged Part" but .....is sworn to absolute secrecy!

I haven't a clue what my friend will be doing but if you watch it, I will be able to tell you all on Monday what part she actually played

I haven't watched much of the games.

Any time I turned on the tv, and eventually found the right channel, it was either something I wasn't interested in (eg weight lifting) or the commentators waffling on.

I'm guessing the closing ceremony will be on early in the morning here, probably 5 or 6. Groan.

I must look at the tv guide!

The Games are over and it's now Edinburgh Festival time.

I went to a few comedy shows last weekend and have tickets for a few more next weekend too.

We saw Danny Bhoy again, a show called The Comedywealth Games and one about Scamming the Scammers.
It was hilarious.
The comedian was fed up receiving scam emails so he played them at their own game and responded.
The whole show was based on the ridiculous emails that were sent back and forth between him and different scammers.
The final email is from the original Scammer... he is furious at the recipient's dishonesty!
The stand up thinks everybody should do it, just for the fun!

Will be back in Auld Reekie on Saturday to see the Iranian Comedienne, Shappi Khorsandi
