I like spiders. and particularly their webs. A very large one has decided to come and live with me.
Normally i sweep them into a jar and let them loose in my shed. As I now live alone, my inclination is to leave this one and treat it as a friend (I know that sounds stupid) when our paths cross.

No webs yet, so before i get certified, any arguments for and against letting Samuel have a free run.

Retirement is wonderful if you have much to live on,and plenty to live for.

My only argument for letting Samuel into the shed is that he will possibly have more access to his dinner ;-) unless he's going to share yours Harry :-)

I like spiders too, there are 3 webs across the outside of my kitchen window, and I can't bear to disturb them to clean it lol.

i dont like spiders thay always seem to run my way and make me jump
and do a silly dance around the room trying to get a way from them

the old man has to pick them up and take them out side

I am a fan too, there has been one on my lounge ceiling since Sunday night, I think it is asleep. Funnily enough, when my son was a little boy he would "save" any spiders and always called them Harry.

Spiders webs are natures fly traps - just make sure you clear them away before you have visitors
If your close family think that you aren't coping with household chores, they may try to 'organise' you with outside agencies ;-)

If an outside agency has beautiful young ladies working for them i could be persuaded to do a swop Typical male.

By the way, to anticipate any query, i know he is a Samuel cos my eyesight is still on the ball.

Just saw a huge one in my kitchen and put him outside..
My late husband used to say they are our friends.
A number of years ago we had 3 grandchildren staying with us during school holidays and they were scared of spiders.we had a particularly large one they christened Boris.
They have never forgotten and if we ever mention spiders they say ...do you remember Boris .?...he was the biggest Spider we ever saw and we just took him outside to carry on his good work.

I only bother to clean the dirty cobwebs because they are abandoned by the spider anyway,and my poor eyesight cannot see clean ones.

I live happily with my spiders,and don't see many flies in my house,mind you,the cats have a great time hunting them.

Hope you are okay.


A couple of weeks ago, I found two ladybirds one on the sitting room door and the other in some grapes I purchased.


Very gently, I picked them up and put them both on the window ledge.

They were off like a shot!


I don't mind ladybirds but I am not fond of our spider friends.

I hope you and Samuel have negotiated terms for his paying rent! :-)

They are amazing mothers.

One hatched out her brood on my front room ceiling and she stayed to guard those babies until they were able to leave .

She would face anything, even the broom when I put it up by her.

I like my wasps as well although I would rather they didn't build in my loft, buzzing about day and night.

I like spiders, but, Elizabeth, I don't like ladybirds.
Both spiders and ladybirds can bite, and the Harlequin, that is decimating our native ladybird (thanks to 'eco' friendly aphid control in greenhouses) is quite vicious.
All big black hairy spiders in this house are called Boris, and are left alone by me (I can't vouch for the cats) unless they're on the ceiling directly above my pillow - then they go out the window.

Saw three squirrels playing this morning. Never seen a three-some before.

Apparently 'Black Widow Spiders' are currently in evidence in Wales & spreading.
