Fred is seeing things again.

Just like he was when he went into hospital. I hope it islow sodium again.

Poor Fred......and poor you. Did they check last time for a urinary tract infection? That can cause havoc.

I don't know, he was in hospital.

His urine looks clear.

He could still have an infection. I would think it would have been one of the first things they checked last time he was in. It can cause confusion, hallucinations, delirium- all sorts of problems.

Hi Sharron...hope Fred is ok. UTI can cause havoc as SueM says, he would feel discomfort when peeing.

Mum used to get worse when she was either constipated or had a UTI :-(

Poor Fred. I hope the Doc. sorts him out. Poor you as well; something else for you to deal with.

Like everyone has said, make sure they check for a UTI. My Dad regularly hallucinated when he got a UTI. One time he was convinced someone had come in during the night and redecorated his house. Another time, sitting in his living room, he was sure he could see boys riding bicycles over his roof!

i remember you saying you had given him liquorice .. did you know that it can cause hallucination and lower potassium levels?

Licorice is LIKELY SAFE for most people when consumed in amounts found in foods. It is POSSIBLY SAFE when consumed in larger amounts use as medicine, short-term. He had a couple of Pontefract cakes because I wouldn't give him laxative pills.

However, I eat liquorice by the cart load. Maybe I should eat less.

i just thought that given Fred's age it might be more likely to have an adverse effect..

I think his potassium will be alright because he eats bananas.

He usually has dried apricots for a log jam.

When on my long-stay in hospital, I regularly was given potassium - it was foul - used to put squash in it.

One day I asked if I could just eat another banana or two per day - was told I would need to eat a hundred to match one dose!

Yikes! That's scary stuff about the licorice.

OH loves the stuff.......... there must be six packets in his "goodies" stash.

I'm not a huge fan of the stuff, but I sometimes steal a few of his Allsorts.
