I am shocked and saddened to hear the news of BC. She will certainly be missed here on GR.
My sincere condolences go to her family, along with my thoughts and prayers.
May she rest in peace
Karen x

Guinevere Report 15 Aug 2014 05:30

Is there a charity we can make donations to in BC's name - does anyone know?

Mauatthecoast Report 15 Aug 2014 17:00

I don't know if BC had a favourite charity but I'll try and find out.

She would probably say 'to a charity of your choice'

We had some great times together on the boards and in real life, we had some great laughs and I am lucky enough to have fantastic memories of those times. She was convinced I was a psychic and loved the silly threads I used to post, she even wrote a story for the GR readers group, once we were on our way back to Euston Station to put me on the train and we stopped at a café as we were early. Whilst drinking our coffee she asked that when I returned home I would post a thread offering readings, I refused as I had received PM,s asking for a reading and it worried me that people were taking me seriously, I also went on to ask what was it her and my mother, my Mother often asks me to read her tea leafs and I haven’t a clue, at this point BC said in the café “ “aww gown Hayley read my cup”, I reminded her she was drinking coffee, refusing to believe this made any difference she slid her cup over to me. I slid it back and told her to turn the cup upside down and turn it in the saucer 3 times, she did this and passed it back, this gave me time to think of something to tell her in the so called reading, she slid the cup and saucer back to me, and still playing for time, I asked her if she was ready for this and could she handle the truth, she sat up straight and gave me a solemn nod of the head, I took at deep breath and lifted the cup and gasped, BC wringed her hands and asked “ whatder see Hayley” I showed her the cup and said naff all its empty and showed her the remains of her coffee bits in the saucer, she then sulked for all of 5 seconds and called me a fraud. We both roared laughing.
When anyone took the time to visit her at her home she would play the hostess to perfection everyone was always made welcome. I used to love to listen to her stories she was such an interesting person and had lived a very interesting life. She was a natural comedian I watched her at meets she could hold court if she commanded it people would be almost hypnotised by her charm and elegance. That’s after they got over the shock that she wasn’t a little old lady dragging a tartan shopping trolly loaded with bottles of bailies, I was looking at photos of us the other day and remember just how tall she was.

Silly Sausage Report 16 Aug 2014 12:18

During her last months she became so weak she couldn’t get out anymore, BC was always on the go, she would walk the dog (she died a few months back) in Hyde park she would be out and about meeting friends she even sang in a choir. On her birthday this year I rang her to wish her happy birthday she was so happy that she had made it to another one and also as her son was with her, he had taken her out for the afternoon in a wheel chair and they had been out and about in Hyde park it choked me to know the free spirit had been so cruelly grounded. Her son had brought her the biggest bottle of Prada perfume he could find she loved it and told me about the wonderful smell, a couple of days later I returned home from work to find a parcel from Harrods it was beautifully wrapped and looked so posh I didn’t want to open it, inside was a large bottle of Prada perfume and a lovely note from BC, I rang her delighted but concerned don’t go wasting your money on me, I then told her I parading up and down the street with the unopened parcel to make sure the neighbours had seen it.

The last time I spoke with BC was Monday of last week and it was only for a few minuets and as the called ended I knew it was the last time I would ever hear her lovely soft sweet voice. She text me last Saturday and her final words were get that sticky ready and make it good. Still when the call came early Sunday morning I was shocked and numb and still am.

I used to ring her weekly and we would be on the phone for at least an hour, she’d ask how are you and I would tell her about the family was and then ask after her she would say “ Ohhh so now finally we get to talk about me” but she didn’t like too she would never moan or complain well actually she would but never about her pain it was normally if she had to wait longer then she expected for a hospital appointment or a doctors attitude. After a while I would ring and say “ no lets talk about you” she didn’t say much never went in to detail about her treatment or the next steps. When she was first diagnosed with cancer in 2010 she told she would have the operation but refused chemo treatment when I protested she would say “ and that’s that” I took this many times as subject discussed and there will be no more to be said. We would exchange our news and then we discuss GR for all of 20 secs this was a ritual she was very protective towards GR and the members.

Like many others I adored her company she was genuine kind funny honest charming witty and so very interesting I cannot believe she has gone I will love and miss her BC will be in my heart forever.

Now you have got me going again :-(..I was trying to find my pics of the Peterborough meet as I know I had a lovely photo of BC .I remember her arriving at the meet and thinking what an elegant lady .Her lovely hair ,coat and nails to match with a pretty green scarf.I think it was green.
I wish I could find my photos ,as dear Daff was there too .I have a horrible feeling they have been lost ,as others have, in a change over from my old lap top to this one.
Thanks Haley for your memories of BC. <3

I remember when l sent some flowers to BC she sent me a message to say she was overwhelmed that someone she had never met would send her flowers and they had made her so happy as she was off for a scan, why l sent them was she had been so kind to me when my mum and brother were dying and l wanted her to know she was special, x

Hi Hayley lovely to see you, thank you for telling us of your treasured memories with BC <3 I know she loved your phone calls and I can hear her voice as you write the words. <3

For me BC was unique, a one off, full of fun and I've never met anyone with quite her zest for life.
I remember the night I stuck 'jewels' onto her high heels for the Indian outfit she was going to wear at her son's wedding. She looked fantastic in a bright green sari and shawl, and with her red hair...a real head turner.

When she was diagnosed she never moaned or wanted sympathy, she'd rather tell a joke or give a witty remark. and she was so kind always thinking of others.

I will miss her and never forget her XX

Thank you Pickle Mumo and Mau <3 <3 <3

Mau I am lauhging like a drain when I remember she called to tell me her son was getting married and that my invite was in the post I didnt actually take her that serious as I had only met him once. She went on to repeat the conversation she had with her son over the wedding...and she had rang him to ask what her future DIL Mother would be wearing, she was promtly told the wedding would be different and the only dress code was it was fancy dress.....I can still hear her cries of anguish when she told me in despair " Hayley I am expected to go to my only son's wedding dressed as fecking clown "

Thank you for sharing some of your memories of BC Hayley.

I had spoken to her on the boards and through a few pm's, and always thought what a lovely lady she was, warm, full of life with a lovely sense of humour.

Your posts brought her alive for me and now I really wish I'd had the privilege of meeting her. :-) <3

MotownGal Report 16 Aug 2014 18:03

I met BC at the London Meet, but had spoken to her on the Boards.

I had written something about London, and she wrote me a PM asking where I was living. I told her, and we discovered we lived a bus journey away from each other. She asked me to a party she was having a few weeks away.

I thought she was joking, and said 'Yeh, course I'll come!' and forgot about it. She wasnt, and suggested she met me from the bus-stop. I was mortified, I had made arrangements to go somewhere else.

I wish I had gone now, I imagine the party would have been a riot!

Sassy is the word I think best described our BC!
