if you give me your postal address I can send you a whole lot of material. :-D You might be able to find something to go with your sari. ;-)

You could always make long tee shirt tops of the material.

By long I mean about 10 inch below your bottom....

Depends on what colour it is.

Furnishing? They would make gorgeous cushion covers!

Vera ................ My daughter bought material from a sari shop to make her graduation dance dress. That was way back in 1992!

She bought a beautiful dark green shot with gold in a heavy silk and made a straight long dress with a slit to the knee at the back, no sleeves and a squarish neck. She also bought a length of gold see-through silk and made a detachable over skirt.

She wore the dress alone for her own graduation dance, and then added the over skirt for her ex-boyfriend's dance (they'd split up a couple of weeks before, but honoured the arrangement for the dances!)

She looked gorgeous on both occasions.

It will probably just sit in my drawer until Kingdom Come while I grin to myself imagining how I would look in my sari.

In a month or two mothers will be starting to make/buy their daughters' prom dresses. Is there enough material for you to be able to sell it to a dressmaking mum? A couple of years ago, on the advice of a dressmaker, my daughter bought material for granddaughter's posh frock from an Indian fabric shop and it was gorgeous.

Think how many lovely T-shirts you could buy if you sell it :-D

No, I don't really see you as a sari wearer.

Could you sell the material and purchase some that you would use? That way it hasn't gone to waste or been ruined by cutting it up.

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 19 Jan 2018 14:05

Well, I suppose if I was honest - no you probably wouldn't use a table runner, but it can be used for entertainment value - a cat sliding along a table runner, for example :-D

Different bunting to hang in the village hall or wherever for the meals etc!

Sharron

Sharron Report 19 Jan 2018 13:30

Do I strike you as somebody who has use for a runner for the table, Maggie?

I don't want to cut it up but it would make a beautiful rag rug!

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 19 Jan 2018 13:16

How about a runner for the table?

Sharron

Sharron Report 19 Jan 2018 13:02

Really, i was just amused by the need for me to have a sari at all.

I have not opened the material up because I can't think of anything I would do that would utilize it, hessian is more my level of delicacy!

A skirt would get no use, even if I knew how to make one, so I expect it will stay bundled up for the foreseeable future unless I come up with a marvelous idea.

Our daughter attended her school friend’s wedding. She turned down the brides mother’s offer to lend her one on the grounds that she’s too buxom to fit into the bodice! The friend told her that even she found them difficult to walk in!

European women have a better chance of teaming the top part of a Salwar-Kameez suit with leggings.
