Just thinking outloud really, for those who will have noticed something but not for those who won't have lol

Speaking of quotations from poetry etc, really getting annoyed by the corruption of poetry featured in that new car ad ( think it's a car ad?).

She stood on the bridge at midnight
Her lips were all a'quiver
She gave a cough
Her leg fell off
and floated down the river...

I eat my peas with honey
I've done it all my life
It makes the peas taste funny
But it keeps them on the knife

Intelligent enough??

There was a young fellow from Hyde,
Who fell down a privy and died.
Then there was his brother
Who fell down another,
And now they're interred side by side.

I have deleted my post here to avoid further upset.

Sorry! JoyLouise.

Dermot, I hate that type of poetry which may just as well be a sentence or paragraph.

But, yes, I get yours OK. Saved yourself from the RRer there.

It simply ain't the sort that I know and love. :-S

Spike M, I like - very funny.

Abou Ben Adam, may his tribe increase
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace

Or

Behold, a giant am I
Aloft here in my tower.
With my granite jaws I devour
....

(Two oft quoted by Dad). (Not sure I have the spelling right in the first instance,)

I like poetry and like Dad, I learned a lot in the past mists of time. I remember some poems by heart, others not so easy.

she stood on the bridge at midnight,
throwing pebbles at the moon..

then later,

Oh Dad I wish my child was born..
then all my troubles would be gorn...
and at my feet please place a dove,
to show the world I died for love....

Abou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase!)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,
And saw, within the moonlight in his room,
Making it rich, and like a lily in bloom,
An angel writing in a book of gold:—
Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,
And to the presence in the room he said,
"What writest thou?"—The vision raised its head,
And with a look made of all sweet accord,
Answered, "The names of those who love the Lord."
"And is mine one?" said Abou. "Nay, not so,"
Replied the angel. Abou spoke more low,
But cheerly still; and said, "I pray thee, then,
Write me as one that loves his fellow men."

The angel wrote, and vanished. The next night
It came again with a great wakening light,
And showed the names whom love of God had blest,
And lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest.

Dermot :-0

I am taken aback.

What a gent you are, however, if you thought I was upset, I was not; nor, I think, was anyone else, so I believe there was no need for you to delete your post.

I am far too thick skinned for anything to upset me - believe me. I have no more rights than you or anyone else when it comes to the threads nor would I ever presume to dictate that we should all like the same thing.

It would be a dull old world if we all liked the same and thought the same, don't you think?

Mary Pugh was nearly 2 when she went out of doors,
She went out standing up she did & came back on all fours.
The moral of the story, please meditate and pause.
Never send a baby out with loosley waisted drawers.

Fred,Fred Fanackapan, walks around the town.
Sometimes with his trousers up and sometimes with them down.

When they were up, they were up and,
When they were down, he was arrested.

"By the Pricking of my Thumbs"

Also a really good book by Agatha Christie and not a bad TV show Agatha Christie's Marple (even if I dont like Geraldine Mcewan as Miss marple)

"Something Wicked this Way Comes"

A really good film with Jonathan Pryce - dont see it very often
