Hello Yes I have noticed they are out of sync for a while. As some may know I post the Birthday wishes and I like to post them as close to 12.00 am GR time as possible, well lately I will be refreshing the page so when a message is posted on or about midnight, I then add the Birthday/s for the day, and sometimes they end up a few messages down the thread and about 2 or 3 minutes earlier than what was stated just before I posted, if that makes sense. Today I posted 5 messages 4 of them showed a time of about 00.01.00 and the other one (Which wasnt the first or last I posted) read about 00.05.00 ????? Gremlins yes!!!! Cheers Sue |

Barry, is it that big pond where you see the swans as you drive through on the way to Swindon? I would have thought it was a great place for moonraking:) Mandy :) Oops sorry, think we posted at the same time! |

Hi Mandy, There is some dispute as to whether it was Devizes or Bishops Cannings that the event took place but us Devizesites like to believe it was in the town. Bishops Cannings is about 2 miles from Devizes at the bottom of Caen hill which Devizes basically sits upon. p.s. my parents still live in Devizes and have done for at least 60 odd years and I reckon they know most folk in the town so maybe they know your son's friends family. |

Hi Mandy, The expression Moonraker derives from the legend of a group of alleged smugglers dressed as farmhands(the smocks and large wooden rakes etc) hid there contraband in the Crammer ( a large pond) opposite St James' Church in Devizes. When they were in the process of recovering the contraband by raking under the water, they were challenge by the local police/customs officers as to what they were up to in the middle of the night? Seeing the reflection of the moon on the surface of the water they replied that they were after the big round cheese in the water! The authorities called them daft so and so's and went on there merry way. Subsequently the 'smugglers retrieved their contraband. Ever since Wiltshire folk in general and more so the residents of Devizes have been known as Moonrakers. Then there's Ruth Pearce, who's sudden and sad demise is commemorated on the Market Cross in the Market Place as a warning to all who take the Lord's name in vain. But that's another story............... |

Hi Barry Having not heard the expression before yesterday, I googled and got a similar story but the place was different. Can't remember it at this time of night, so I'll just go and find the other thread and then come back lol! Mandy :) PS: One of my son's friends lives in Devizes. UPDATE: Just checked and it said Bishops Canning. Now I'll have to go look on Multimap to see where that is :)) |

Hi Barry That's so funny - it's the second time I've heard that phrase in two days on here, and I'd never heard it before! Sadly, I'm not a true moonraker. I'm a Devonshire Dumpling originally, exiled in Cider Country for the last 17 years. Just moved over the border and we like it here very much. Mandy :) |

Hi Mandy, Nice to see a fellow Moonraker on here. I was born in Devizes and bread off the Coop but am now living in exile on the South Coast. Barry |
