Hi BC All I can say is that my son is 18 and I would be very disappointed in him if I discovered that he didn't hold doors open for people, or say please and thank you etc! However, I do agree that some very liberated women don't like men being polite - I too have heard the story about a man being berated by a woman for holding the door open for her! Mandy :) |

Julie I get that same comment at parents eve... i usually jokingly say I'm Kerry's mum LOL but joking aside only today received a letter from her school, praising her. Teresa I hate it when you queue for ages, then a massive bundle to get on.......usually come up with a sarky comment said very loudly. But when kids with me I usually say very loudly 'And they reckon the younger generation are rude?' as it's is usually the older generation that shove in. Another incident that springs to mind... was when i was pregnant with eldest (so 14 yrs ago now) I'd had problems with the pregnancy and had to go to hospital for a day of tests as I'd been bleeding. Had to be at hospital for 9 am. Went to bus stop and of course it was rush hour. Bus came and everyone shoved on. I got on, but husband and sister didn't. They mimed that i should go on and they'd meet me there, as it was me who at be at hospital. So there I am 7 1/2 mths pregnant, alone scared and very stressed about whats going to happen. So I burst into tears, do you think one person offered me a seat???? or even asked was i ok????? I stood sobbing for the whole 20 mins journey. |

My son is seven and very polite/well mannered which people think is so quaint and, 'Oh, he is so funny'. I don't find it that funny, I must say. When I was pregnant, I was elbowed in the stomach by a man who wanted to get to the post office queue in front of me. So Charming! Lorrainex |

I was taught to: >mind my P's and Q's, >hold doors open for my elders or those with things to push and pull (Prams, buggys, shopping trollies) or wheelchairs. >give up my seat to elders or those carrying children >offer to help get a load up or down the stairs (again prams etc..) >say excuse me if needing to get past and that's just to start with, also was taught table manners as my grandparents would say they could never take my cousin and I to have tea with the Queen unless we improved all our manners. Must admit I still let my elders on the bus ahead of me but do relent if an elderly gent lets me board first. My brother was taught the same, not sure how good his manners are but we get tolt regually that he is lovely and charming and a pleasure to have to visit (he's 16). Manner's make a person, not just a person. May be they should teach manners and ettiquet in schools, then just maybe be would have some polite youngsters around. |

Yes they are but most of the people who shop in my local Tesco's don't seem to have any. I dislike food shopping at the best of times but really dread it when people barge past you without saying excuse me, some of the staff don't say please and thankyou and people standing in the middle of the aisles chatting and when you say excuse me look at you as if you are rude. But the thing that gets my back up the most is people rushing past knocking into small children as if they have no right to be there. OMG what have you done you've got me started now lol Jackiexx |
