Little Lost

Little Lost Report 16 Jan 2007 22:11

first time I went to Scotland was to visit my mum aunt Chrissie. Remember her being very old and frail. Mum had to help her in and out of bed etc. I was only about 8 and it was quite an adventure travelling to Scotland on the overnight train. Wasnt till I started doing this family tree that I realised how old she was.!!! She was born in 1890 and died 1968 shortly after my visit so I think that must have been the intention of my mum to make one last visit before she passed away.

An Olde Crone

An Olde Crone Report 16 Jan 2007 22:12

I had four great great Aunts - three in one household, one in another. They used to practically tear my arms off to get at me, lol! One of them showed me how to slide down the bannisters - she was well into her seventies, lol. They played endless, boring games with me (they must have been bored, not me), let me dress up in their clothes, curled my hair, bought me sweets and comics and were always, always thrilled to see me. We moved hundreds of miles away when I was about ten, and I never saw any of them again. It is only as I get older that I realise how devastated they must have been when we left - none of them had ever married and my family was their whole reason for life. I can still see them now, pinnies on, beaming chubby faces, hair in old-fashioned buns - Eeeh! Come in, our duck, our pet, our bunny! Tears in my eyes - no-one has ever been that pleased to see me since, lol! OC
