Sue in Somerset

Sue in Somerset Report 15 Jan 2007 22:41

I have 3 saucepans. They are excellent but mine must be about 20 years old now and they are getting very difficult to clean. Once the inner enamel has aged it seems to get rough and then cleaning is a bit of a performance. After I make a stew now I need to fill them with biological washing powder solution overnight and if that doesn't get them clean I have to use bleach. I didn't get any of the very large saucepans because of the weight. I'm not sure what I'd replace them with though. I have a non-stick saucepan but that hasn't lasted long.......the coating is starting to come off after only a relatively short time. My best pan is a large stainless steel Finnish one which has a steamer and a bain marie in a stack above plus lid. That cleans easily and isn't very heavy. Sue

Thanks everyone it's pretty much what I have been told so far. Maggie. Fortunately I can't make excuses like that cos there def won't be any more pregnancies here !!!. Shame cos I really did like the break from cooking and oven cleaning lololololol xx

My ex bought me a set of 5 one Christmas (that's part of the reason he's my ex - such imaginative presents!!) They weren't enamelled, so needed 'seasoning' after every use and - as everyone else has said - blooming heavy, and me being 3 months pregnant at the time- well it was quite good in a way, I could add 'unable to cook' to my 'unable to clean oven' (chemicals!!) list of things I couldn't do!!! BTW The pans went his way in the divorce maggie

I had some but had to get rid of them - far too heavy. I then invested in some really good stainless steel pans which double up as casserole/oven dishes and have never looked back! OC

They are excellent, but as others have said - they're really heavy - even when empty! AL

Le Creuset are cast iron french cooking pots. Very heavy indeed. Imagine lifting one of their casserole dishes full of boeuf bourguignon out of a low level oven!!!!! I have and needed back surgery! Dee x

I've got one and use it loads - however it is quite heavy and not the easiest thing to keep clean. Wouldn't like to be without it though. Kate
