Gillie, how sad to hear about your uncle, I hope he can be helped, if not totally, at least helped so the pain is relieved as much as possible. I lost my dad 17 years ago tomorrow, from lung cancer that had been passed off for two years as chest infections. Your poor m-i-l is going through the mill, hope she can cope with it all and not suffer too much pain, surely there must be some pain relief, it seeems wrong to leave her suffering. Will be thinking about you and your relatives, keep us updated. Liz

Update today: Hi again everyone, thank you all so much for your continuing good wishes, it has been a terrible time for us all, especially mil, since I last posted I have had more bad news about my uncle who is seriously ill in hospital,he has chronic COPD and has been told he now has lung cancer, it must be the time of year for people being low and unwell. Back to mil, she is doing ok at the moment, she was sent home from hospital again thursday after her appointment to see her rheumatologist, her rheumatologist has decisded that mil has burcitis of her hip joint and needs a cortisone injection in the hip to relieve it, at the moment she cannot have it because she is on antibiotics for a chest infection that has been ongoing since Christmas, she has another appointment for her injection to be done in 2 weeks time, until then she has to put up with the pain as they cannot give her any other pain relief. Thank you once again for every words you write, they mean alot to me, it's so kind of you all, it' good to know that other people care. Gillie xx

Hi Everyone, I thank you all for all your good wishes. I have yet another update! After returning home on the evening of the 17th and chasing around to collect the painkillers mil needed, she has had more blood tests because of the walfrin she is on, she has the tests weekly, sometimes twice weekly depending on how the clot bashing is going, anyway, after having a visit from her GP and the GP getting the info on what happened at the hospital the day before, she is absolutely livid, she requested that mil had a CT scan which was not carried out, she is still convinced mil has an infection in her hip, we all know mil has bad joints and that she was told 2 years ago her knee would need replacing, so to follow on now the GP has spoken to mil's rheumatologist and has managed to get her appointment brought forward from Feb 9th to today, she has to go to the hospital with an overnight bag as her GP wants her to stay in for complete rest and to get to the bottom of why she is so ill and to sort the pain relief out, the painkillers haven't done a thing even though they are much stronger, I will keep you up to date on the goings on. Cheers for listening. Gillie XX

What a lot for her to deal with. A different sort of antibiotic will hopefully sort out the infection so that the doctors can give appropriate treatment. I hope that the painkillers mean that she will now be more comfortable. Gwyn

Update 14.51. Hi everyone, thank you again for all your good wishes. Yesterday was a very long day, hubby and I took mil to hospital, she had in all 3 blood tests and 16 x-rays to her chest, lower back, hips, thighs, knees and lower legs, we were lucky enough not to have to wait too long to be seen, her GP thought she thought she may either have a fractured hip or septic rheumatoid in her hip, she was showing signs of an infection in her blood, having previously had septicaemia twice before she didn't want to take any chances, no fractures found thank goodness, but she was still having severe pain in her right leg, the results are that she has a chronic chest infection that hasn't cleared up since before Christmas despite numerous courses of antibiotics, her hips are ok, not too bad considering the state of her arthritis', she had a complete knee replaced on her left knee about 3 years ago which has worked beautifully, the other knee is in a terrible state, the orthopaedic surgeon said, her knee cap has completely gone, worn away, and her upper and lower leg bones are rubbing together, bone on bone rubbing is causing the pain, her GP was hoping they would keep her in but due to the state of her chest and her immune system being shot to pieces through the medication she is on, they sent her home, all in all we spent nearly 9 hours at hospital, an exhausting day for all concerned, I asked them what painkillers she could have as the ones she is on aren't doing a thing for her, they have prescribed some different ones that are even stronger, and another lot antibiotic to get rid of the awful chest infection she has. Gillie xx

Gillie, MiL will be ok, she'll be a fish out of water for a few days but will soon settle. Don't forget to back her nihty and toiletries (inc towel), and take any regular medication she is on, they'll need it to write up a prescription chart. A few days on antibiotices and I bet you MiL will be back on her feet. ((((hugs)))) to all
