apparrently the remake is darker in tone, more like the book. Hence the rename from Willy Wonka... to Charlie... I've seen the trailer, its bizarre, I'm undecided...

remakes are usually a bit rubbishy I'll agree with you there - they've tried it once already with King Kong, but I have a little more confidence this time. Am also looking forward to the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (another of my favourite books as a kid) thats coming out soon - directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp. Hope he makes a better job than he did with Planet o the Apes as that was... disappointing.

She - lucky boy indeed. I read them when I was about 12 I think. Have to admit that the hobbit was actually my favorite - an easier read lol

Unknown Report 2 Feb 2005 22:36

Its actually a book that was written to be understood on two levels - as an intellectual logical adult and as a child reading an adventure fantasy. My son read them all when he was 7 going on 8 and loved them then , and has re-read them and enjoyed them on a higher level now at 25. He is really lucky as he has seen some of the areas where the movies were filmed. And Grampa Jim - is it a book Tolkein you are getting lol
