Bob Yeah nice one ;-))) Bob Wood I agree they did not think the poster through, shamless really But your synopsis I think is correct. For the Labour party to be drawn into such a trap, well wouldnt have happened to the old Party, but with new labour anything can happen. Enjoyed the thread Bob Wood thank you. Hope you enjoyed the couple of drinks, still level headed though :-) Pat x |

Having started this thread I thought I had better outline my thoughts a bit clearer. I do not think any anti semitism was intended and yes I do now the posters were withdrawn, however this leaves us with one of the following. A) They did not think the posters through. They were so nieve that they did not make the jewish/pig connection. B) They made the connection but did not think anyone else would. C) They made the connection and thought it was a good idea and new what the outcome could be. and still put it foward to the membership. C) does not bare thinking about. B) means they do not think the electorate are intelegent and can be taken for granted. A) means they are not thinking through their actions. On the ballance of evidence I would go for A). eg. The gamming act proposed and watered down, The burglary issue, a new law, no, explaine the current. i could go on. There does not seem to be any in depth thinking with this governement. and this was the problem with the proposed posters. So bad taste and ill thought through is my opinion. Bob PS sorry for any spelling I have just got back fromn the pub after a few drinks. |

I wonder if the advisers/designers were the same people that ill-advised Prince Harry? |

Yeah Chloe, Can't wait for the Tories, there is so much they could do but they will do something just as stupid, hopefully. Think all that making fun was a favourite in the 1970's I remember a lot of very important issues were thrown by the wayside, I reckon the Tories are the best at it though. OK just my opinion that is. Pat x |

Not anti-semitic..... bad taste, yes, anti-semitic, no! I didn't even know they were Jewish! Besides, didn't one Rabbi (in the Mail at least) state that he didn't think they were anti-semitic? It just a slander campaign. Wait until the Tories get theirs in order, they'll be just as bad. Politics doesn't seem to be about issues anymore, just about making fun at the other party. Chloe |

Maybe the retaliation should be Tony and his cronies in kilts, as New labour seems (no, not seems, it is) dominated by Scots, even if some have "lost" their accents. |

Jack, Anti-Semitism is hatred of Jewish people. It's what led to the persecution of Jews and the horrific slaughter of millions of them in the concentration camps during World War 2, which has become known as 'The Holocaust'. CB >|< |

anti semitic??? I don't really follow politics (or even watch the news - too much bad stuff) which is probably why I have never heard of anti semitism! Can someone educate me and tell me what it means please? Jack <feeling thick> x |

I don't believe the poster was intended to be anti semitic, but it's typical of politicians to be thoughtless, careless and just seeing one angle which was obviously pigs might fly, it should be withdrawn. Pat x |

I haven't seen the posters, however, I would be astounded if those responsible for them hadn't realised the connecton that would be made (whether they would admit to that is another thing - "pigs might fly" indeed). |

Yes, I do think these posters were anti-Semitic and in very poor taste. The timing of their appearance is also highly questionable, given the Holocaust memorial day. Given the fuss over a poster in the past depicting Tony Blair as the Devil, I think these should be withdrawn and apologies offered. CB >|< |

I would say probably ill-judged and tasteless rather than blatantly anti-semitic. |

The first showed the faces of Howard and Letwin superimposed on the bodies of flying pigs. It is well known that both are jewish and that pigs are seen as unclean by the jewish religion. Bob |
