Kerry

Kerry Report 31 Jan 2005 22:50

Hello everyone, back from my mums and had a lovely time. Stayed longer that planned but was nice for her to see Kian. We got back last night and drove past camp to find the gates were shut, We thought it was odd and thought that there might be a new terror state. Stopped at the shop to pick up a few things and saw TV crews and vans in the car park-knew something was wrong. Got home and found out that a C130 Hercules had crashed in Iraq, if that wasn`t bad enough, the Hercules was from Lyneham and people that died were also from lyneham, although not all of them. Have found out today, through unofficial names released on camp that we knew a few of the men! My heart goes out to their families and they will be sadly missed but never forgotten! This is the price we pay for doing our jobs. They died as Heros. RIP

Kerry I thought of you when the news was on, as I remember you saying Lyneham was where you were based. Terrible tragedy. Thinking about their poor families. Christine

Hi Kerry, I didn't know you were based at Lyneham. Terrible news wasn't it. i was thinking of the families before it was known who was involved. I used to work as a civvie at RAF Innsworth where the intitial news will have been received. I am sure life on that camp is subdued at the moment too as the RAF is a small 'family'. The families of those lost are in my mind as are all the lads and lasses who are out there. They are doing, as always a great job. Best wishes Ann Glos

Very sorry at the news. A few years back (1990) we went over to Germany for the wedding of the daughter of good friends, both bride and groom in the RAF, she on admin, he a navigator in Tornados. We came back from holiday four months later to find a note to say he had been killed in a mid-air collision. Next thing was a memorial service at Bury St Edmonds then seeing the Battle of Britain 45th anniversery flypast that he should have been in (London flypasts always come over our house on the way in).

Dear Kerry So sorry about your comrades! I believe one of our RAAF people attached to the RAF died on the aircraft also. Only Australian to die in Iraq, leaves wife and three young children. So sorry for all the families involved. Pam

Just want to say Thank you to everyone for their kind words of support. These last few days have been tough and today finally, the news crews have left Lyneham. So Kian and I went to put down flowers! Now we can mourn in peace.
