I'm now pretty sure that the man next-door used to wear these, he had the pasty-style ones but I reckon it's the polyvelts you're talking about. Maybe they had a few different styles?

:-)

I have a pic of a similar pair of shoes belonging to a friend, just off to see if I can get it onto next gen pics.

I wore my black pair with dayglo socks and skintight stretch jeans, and of course a duffel coat! Yay 1984!

If they were Clarkes, why not contact the Clarks shoe manufacturers. I think they are amalgamated with K Shoes now though.
I don't remember my daughter wearing them.

I did a search on the net and there were lots of mentions but no pictures. But there are apparently Polyvelts on Ebay. i didn't look any further, just thought I would tell you.

Hi Ann

They were extraordinarily comfy in those days, wonder if your dau remembers others wearing them.

My friend who is a nurse has a similar pair which kicked me off into nostalgia months ago when I saw them so this thread was quite timely!

I've uploaded the pic Jen sent me onto Next Gen.

They are really, truly the ugliest shoes in the world.

I have seen them on Next Gen now. I agree Gwynne, I do vaguely remember seeing them around. They may be ugly but they were probably sensible for growing feet.

Yes, that's them!! Pasties!!

Gwynne, I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you. Crocs are the ugliest shoes in the world, even though I have two pairs myself ;-)

Guinevere Report 25 Jan 2008 10:47

Technically crocs are sandals, Mandy.

But they are ugly and I don't have any of those, either.

But I bet Mum in law would if she was still around.

I've now got a pair of fur-lined Crocs....as slippers!! Comfiest slippers I've ever had in my life. I hope there will be no comparisons between me and your MIL :-)))

Sheila, yes, Ugg boots are pretty awful too!

We used to wear pasties too they were well comfy i had black pairs for school for about 4 years running.

Have to say i love me uggs but the shoes i wouldnt be seen dead in are those crocs i dont care how comfy they are lol

Crocs are great, really light and you can walk straight into the sea over the painful pebbles with them on - they even float so help your buoyancy!!

Oh and if anyone wants pasties, a factory outlet shop may have them.

Good job I didn't like girly shoes anyway, with F width feet!

Mauatthecoast Report 25 Jan 2008 11:11

Didn't know they were called Polyvelts!
My daughter and her friends called them Pasties,a very apt name!
Hers were light brown and she loved them, I was glad about that as she pestered us to buy them for her. :O)
