Can I only add records that are purchased through Genes Reunited or can I add my own records that I found locally or overseas?

Sylvia, I have only had a basic sub as, like you, I use other sites for searching records (the search facility on here is dreadful, imho.) The tree building facility here is, despite all its faults, still about the easiest I've tried. I just wish they'd let us use Upper Case when we want to!

Moving your tree is up to you, I can't advise you ........ I only work on my gut feeling!.

I've said for a long time that I thought GR would eventually at the best revert back to what it was when it first began or say about 2004/2007 ............ a place to build your tree for free and to have a Members' area where members could help other members.

At the worst, I've felt that it could be shut down .............. but the owners would have to go before the Competition Board to get permission to do that.

I've never had more than the basic subscription to GR, and have never used any of the records because I already had subscriptions to other sites and/or used free sites before GR began to carry records.

I've just started work again on my tree now that autumn has arrived here in the UK, and thought that I'd look at some of the recent posts in the 'Suggestions' thread.

As you said to Gerard, GR staff have given up any interest in posts on these threads - if they ever actually had any interest in them in the first place! My belief is that they only opened the threads for those of us who were so frustrated with the changes to the tree / website / searches, etc had somewhere to vent our annoyance other than to their 'support' staff (who, incidentally, I have always found very helpful).

I think that you are right in saying that they are more interested in FindMyPast these days and I am beginning to wonder how much longer they will support GR?! Is it time to start thinking of transferring my tree from here to FMP!!??

First, GR staff no longer pay any attention to any of threads on the Suggestion Board. I am one of a few members who do watch so that we can atleast give some sort of response to others who ask questions

Second, mother's maiden name are available before mid-1911 ONLY on the GRO Index, which is the official Registration site for England and Wales.

GR would have to pay them for the privilege of adding records to this site ............ why bother when GRO is a free site????????


Third, It does not seem as if GR is adding any records at all, the other site FMP is of more importance to the company.

The GRO birth indexes have had mother's maiden name for births before 1911 for a while now. Is there any chance we can get this, very useful, addition on Genes Reunited?

Can the Find Living Relatives tab have a field into which the surname can be entered and is then searchable by members.
As it is, unless you check the thread every day you have no hope of being able to assist anyone.

I keep looking for Irish records from the period prior to the uprising and do not find much listed anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions where I might search?

I don't think GR carries Irish records, does it?

Where do I find records re Ireland it seems everything else is there but I cant get any help searching Irish Records.

The site is now no longer user friendly! If I enter a name I can get 100's but no way of sorting into logical census order - like we used to be able to do. Also, when viewing a census page and a member of the family that you are researching is at the top of the page - why can we not now go to the previous page to view other siblings, parents etc? Most dissatisfied with this latest 'improvement'.

Please go back to your earlier site - it was much easier to navigate and get records; I don't like this at all! :-( :-(

Having paid my subscription to G.R. would like to view my tree, but after waiting at least three quarters of an hour unable to view, tried several times, having been a member for several years think this is a very poor show.

Well I have just been reading this again - and I notice that a reply about GR not been able to make correction because they did not transcribe the records in the first place but FMP did.

Well I think this reply is wrong because I have found that FMP records were correct from the beinning but the GR are nnot so who has altered the records.

As if GR are using old FMP records they are charging us who are using the site for record collection and cannot make alterations for incorrect records - as fools - and in reality taking our money unfarely IMO.

What is the BNA? Tried Google but nothing relevant.

Probably a waste of time posting here as its likely to be outside GR's control, but never the less

When an article is found on the BNA, it would be good to be able to save the image to one's computer.
As it is, all you end up saving is the link. To save the page, you have to print out and scan back in.
