As Demetrius and Esther weren't married until the December quarter of 1879, is it possible that Helena was born out of wedlock and was registered under Esther's maiden name Harris? She may not even have been registered under the name Helena!!

I've got war records info from St Anthonys Great War Memorial website about John - what it say's is that his mother is Esther and his sister Regina both living at 84 Claudia Street, Liverpool? John and his wife were at Orry street. This must be after the 1911 census when he joined up - it doesn't given Esther's surname - Regina had a daughter who was also called Regina - she was my grandmother - I can remember going to her house and she too lived in Claudia street - is there anyway of looking at who lived in Claudia Street in 1911 - maybe there were some Pritchards!

You'll see in this email trail that Helen found a marriage cert for Thomas Richardson to Florence Zeverona? As far as I know there was no Florence - is there a birth/death certificate for a Florence? There is only one lot of Zeverona's around at the time and they all come from Esther and Deamethras - I believe they had three children, Helena, Regina Victoria and John Demetrius - I have made really good progress with Regina Victoria and John Demetrius - it's Helena who is the mystery - but where did Florence come from? The only other explanation for Florence is that she was John's daughter but I certainly haven't found any records for this?

If you look on the 1901 you found for the family under the name Simmons, you will see that Albert Pritchard born 1894 is also on that census with them listed as brother in law.

Isabella is listed as born in 1896 - so born before the marriage. Perhaps Thomas was a widower when he married Lena.

Like you, I'm sure this is the same family - just can't get the proof in the form of birth/marriage registrations.

I did have a look at the military records for John D Zeverona (killed in action in WW1) but he has his wife listed as next of kin and I couldn't see any other family members listed.

I'll have a quick scout and see if there are any military records for Albert Pritchard.



John D Zeverona was killed in 1918 and was in The Kings (Liverpool regiment). There is a death for an A Pritchard in 1916 who was in the same regiment but I can't see any next of kin so can't be 100% sure this is your man.


The closest I can get for a death for Helena Richardson is this one in 1940 - out by 4 years or so.

I did think that Esther Pritchard was possibly the same Esther Zeverona - family history suggests that there was an Albert Pritchard who was related who died in WW1 - I think this was him in the 1911. What is confusing is that Regina Ludlow (nee Zeverona) is listed as the sister-in-law to Thomas Richardson - I am presuming that must mean she is the sister of Lena - who therefore must be Helena. I'm making this assumpton because my father remembers 'aunty Lennie' who I think must be Lena. I noticed also that Evelyn was 15 in the 1911 and yet Lena and Thomas had only been married 11 years - perhaps Evelyn is not her daughter - I'll try searching for info on the kids.

Still can't find a birth/death but we can rule out the marriage for Thomas Richardson to Lena Louise Smith - this looks to be her in 1911 living with her mother Louisa. She can also be found on the 1901 and 1891 with Louisa and her father Alexander.

I also noticed from the 1911 for the other Lena Richardson that there is a mother-in-law listed as Esther Pritchard. Lena/Helena's father Demetrius died in 1892 but I can't find a re-marriage for Esther Zeverona to anyone called Pritchard. Just posting the other 1911 for reference.

I have but couldn't find anything - I think Helena/Lena may have been using various names - this is borne out by the reply from Helen above?

This is very interesting - there wasn't a Florence Zeverona (as far as I know) I'm sure this must be the right people as there weren't any other Zeveronas around. Is there an earlier marriage cert for Thomas Simmons and a Helena/Lena Zeverona (?) I'm going to send for the Richardson marriage certificate so that I can confirm this Florence's parentage. Hi - Helena appears on 1881 census but then disappears. However, I believe that Lena Richardson on the 1911 census (married to Thomas Richardson) may well be the same person as it states that another occupant (Regina Ludlow - nee Zeverona) is the sister in law? A twist - the whole Richardson family seem to be listed on the 1901 census with a surname of Simmons - and John Zeverona (Regina's brother) is lodging? Is there a marriage certificate anywhere for Helena/Lena or a death certificate? Hope someone can help.
