Thanks to Kath and Chris for the above death/burial finds - I now have the death cert, and it's definitely the right Leah. Age confirmed as 46, so born about 1893 - this made her 29 or so when she married, as noted by Flip.
(She died on Christmas day, sadly).
It doesn't get me any further really, but still!
Thanks for the help everyone.

That's good news Jan, at least you have her death and her possible marriage - so a few years older than David then, and married late at 29.

I really wonder if Hill was her birth name - maybe she had been married previously, in view of her age - we don't have the luxury of BMD certificates for any of her children or her marriage to David.

Have you looked for a Leah xx marriage to a Hill in the right area, or previous Hill births with a mother Leah (ie before her marriage to David)?

Thanks Flip/
I have done as you suggest, and have looked at everything I can think of - previous marriages of a Leah to a Hill, possible births of other children etc etc but nothing definitive. No marriages which might fit anywhere near the area, though of course I have no idea where she was born.
Have even looked at other Hills in the right sort of place!
I suppose I was at heart hoping for a link to Emma Hill, but there is nothing as far as I can see.
Thanks for your interest, any further suggestions recieved gratefully!

Really Jan? I'd say buy an ouiji board and try to connect to them - looks like it may be your only hope :-D

ADDED: Sorry, I'm being a bit flippant, but I don't know what else to suggest :-S And like you, I've not managed to find anything further.

Well, you have to accept when you're beaten don't you! Thanks for all the input, and I shall maybe re-visit this one day. After trying the occult route first of course!

Got a similar one myself - John Smith born Catterick c 1793-97 - never managed to trace him although every couple of years I ressurect the thread to see if anything more has come on-lne.

Incidentley the Ouiji board didn't find anything for him either :-D
