I have never found a death entry for Samuel.

In 1851 SAMUEL was living with his son (Samuel) at Shellane Cottage Membury, he is stated to be a Widower.
SAMUEL was a Butcher, the witnesses at his marriage were: JOAN SMITH, JOHN HOCKEY, WILLIAM KYTE.

One more Query, Thomas Hockey had a son named Samuel born Stockland 1789 as this is 8 or 9 years before his marriage to Sarah Symons (nee martin) it looks as if it was also His 2nd marriage but I cannot find any entry for a marriage.

Thanks for finding Sarah,s maiden name, when she married Thomas in 1798 the witnesses were John Martin & James Rapsey.

I have solved the mystery.
In the 1800s a son-in-law was stepson not as we know it today, I have found that Thomas Hockey,s wife (Sarah) was married to a Henry Symons and they had a son William, Henry died at Luppit about 1797 and Sarah married Thomas 30-8-1798 at Luppit. I have not yet been able to find the marriage of Sarah & Henry to give me Sarah,s maiden name.
