Just to put the Kalthoebers in context, when I first started my family tree I thought it would be relatively straightforward to trace their line, with such an unusual surname. Little did I know!! I currently have 132 of them (one or two may be duplicates), with 9 Charles and 11 William. I am still trying to link them all to Christian Samuel K, potentially my 4x great grandfather, who was born in Lieberhausen, near Cologne in Germany. He came to London in the late 1700s and was considered, at that time, to be the greatest bookbinder, carver and gilder in the world. Some of his books are now sold for tens of thousands of pounds. I am lucky enough to have two of his volumes, with his ticket name inside. My wife bought them both for me, but not for thousands of pounds, I hasten to add. Unfortunately, he liked the dreaded booze and was bankrupt by the time he died in 1819.
