Mary just to let you know I got the certificates for John William Snell/Jones and Florence Jeanette Smith - and you were correct - she is my grandmother.
The name first names fit and the dob.
So a fifteen year mystery has been solved!

My next task is to find my grandfather - the so called John Frederick Barclay, who presumably kept her and the children when she was in Hammersmith in 1911.

Found her Yvonne,thanks to the GRO publishing mums maiden name before the normal 1911.

Margaret Snell was with the Smith family as I said earlier.
She had Margaret Rosetta Smith mum nee Snell 1878 west Ham V4a P106
Annie Ada Smith nee Snell 1876 West Ham 4a 98.
Robert henry Smith 1874 West Ham V04a P57

She also had Charles Henry Jones in Kingston Surrey 1868 V2a P304 died 1872
John William Jones 1870 V2a P280

Then we have
Florence Jeanette Smith registered 1887 March Qtr in Poplar mum nee Snell V 01c P 622.

I can only find this record on GRO and not on ancestry or Free BMD.

Both these addresses are in the same area i.e Poplar/Canning Town postcode now E14

I can't find any of the births for the Smith children or any sign of them in 1901,could the above actually be Margaret Snell with daughter Florence 1886 and son John William Jones/Snell 1870??

Charles Henry Jones O/N/D 1868 Kingston Surrey V2a P304 he died J/A/S 1872 buried St Mary Hampton.

John William Snell on 1939 register it says he was born 16/9/1870 so that seems to fit birth of John William Jones!!

No sign of Margaret Jones, John Jones or Charles Henry Jones in 1881.
No sign of marriage for Margaret Snell to Mr Jones.

Albert is the 7th child of William James Snell (1852-1933) and Mary Ann Smeeth (1858) and brother to my Grandmother's aunt - Mary Ann Snell (1854-1929) all born in Hampton.

I wonder if Margaret is sister to William and Mary - whose mother is Mary Ann Snell (1829-1889)? Neither of them have father's on their birth certificates.

Underneath baptism for Florrie Jetty is another one for Snell
Albert Edward Victor Snell baptised same day by William James and Mary Ann Snell !!

I have the birth certificate for the aunt - Mary Anne Sarah SNELL born 18 Sept 1854 in Hampton - but no father registered. Her mother was Mary Ann SNELL..
The wedding certificate for MAS Snell to George Henry Baker in Hampton on June 11th 1878 names her father as Francis Oburne - deceased.

I can't find any links to Francis Oburne - andI think I need that to get my grandmother's - Florence's mother or father's name I think?
