Karen:
I have a rather large one name NZ "Kennedy Index" {around 15000 Kennedy names} which includes the New Zealand BDM details of those family members you are looking for and who came to New Zealand: I have only just come across your inquiry and note the length of time since you requested information: if you are still looking for the NZ details just let me know.
Regards

Morning Erin and Maura..

Just an update on my search for Margaret and her family..

After 'googling' several names from the census of 1901 and 1901, I had a hit on the "Roots.com' chat line, so joined and email these people who were mentioned .. a hit

Margaret and Madge(shd read Matilda) are sisters, a lot of wrong info has transpired but its all now sorted , after my input and lots of double checking.
Maragrets family (parents and siblings) do move back to Scotland after 1911, several siblings end up New Zealand.

So again tks for all your help .. all really helpful

Cheers
Karen of Brisbane :-D :-D

I have my tree on Ancestry, its a private tree. I am about to enter what info we have now found and see what 'hints' occurr ...

Have just looked at the 'proni' website and found the will of John Maxwell, and entered a few Kennedy names as well, with a few maybes, hard with no death ages...

At this stage I cannot find any arrival details for Maggie/Margaret and John M Kennedy, have looked at FMP.

I did find Johns death in NZ although it says 1918..
I know in my 'pile' of search info, I proved to myself this other 'Kennedy' family with similar names was not related ( I have looked at so many Kennedys, I am going crazy), .. I think I had them on electoral rolls in NZ c 1911 and had found my lot on the 1911 census of Ireland ...

Once again , tks for all your help, I am most gratefull :-D :-D

Herbert ( Maggie/Marg husband) is my gggrandfathers brother, who has a very colourful past. So far we have unearthed 1 liasion in UK with a child and no marriage, and 2 marriages in NZ ... so the searching has been interesting with lots of twists and turns..

I am about to look more newspapers in NZ, to see if I can find John..

Cheers
Karen :-) :-)

Karen...if you have been looking at the Tree from Ancestry it may be that iit is incorrect unless there is primary source info to back it up....I don't have access or use the site so cant comment.....
Have you evidence that any of the other Kennedys went to NZ..?

Karen Report 3 Mar 2012 21:25

Morning,

Yes, it was bedtime ....

The info is amazing, but the family from Scotland is wrong, I had also seen this and traced it backwards and forwards.

My Margaret Maxwell Kennedy marries Herbert Charlton Woodbridge in 1917 in NZ. I found a notice in the NZ paper, about the couple and where they were from,( although the spelling of Margarets home town was off the planet, and again I had to ask GR readers for help) .. although by Margarets death notice, her age is different and this is where I went wrong, also never thought to use Maggie in the searches.... many tks to you both :-D :-D

Three heads are much better than one .....

I will try the sights you refer to today and see what happens....

Cheers
Karen

Given the 2nd surnames and some of the Christian names...eg Gordon..I agree there is likely Scottish influence a couple generations back...
Will need to wait until Karen returns to see if your findings match her Margaret...I am sure they will...
Think it's probably bedtime in Brisbane at the moment...

The area my ancestors came from had surviving 1831 census records but I think my family must have moved to Scotland by then.

However, I read that if they claimed for a pension later on (i.e. I think it said from 1909) they sometimes referred back to the earlier census records i.e. 1841 census to confirm details. At that point those particular records hadn't been destroyed.
