http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ is the main site for Scottish records - although you can make free searches, its a credit based system to view the full results.

Although not especially familiar with Scotlandspeople, you may not find records up to 1965 because of privacy legislation. Have a read of the site to discover what you can and can't do

John B Pick went to Cape Town 1947.

Returned
21 July 1950 Cape Town to Southampton Ship Athlone Castle
John Pick 27 of Buxton Derbyshire a fitter
Mildred Pick 25 housewife.
Did they have a daughter 1958!!

I would contact the lady on here who has Mildred and John in her tree and ask her when Mildred died.
Maybe John got back with Gene if she died.

Hi again friends!
I discovered that Kathleen's lead on John B. Pick to Scotland is sadly not the correct one. It did, however take me on an exciting search through Wikipedia because I traced that particular John B. Pick to be none other than John Barclay Pick, a famous writer of historical Scottish fiction, a poet and a biographer of the Scottish novelist Neil Gunn.
His biography states that he was born in Leicester in 1921. So it looks like the wrong guy.
The only other lead I have is John Bagshawe Pick but he was not born in Chapel-en-le-Frith in 1923, as my ancestor was, but nearby in Buxton. Although this is too much of a coincidence to discard, I have been told by a relation here on GR that John Bagshawe Pick has different parents. Now I really am at a loss! There seems to be no trace of John B. Pick from Chapel-en-le-Frith. No infant death or any marriage etc. Can anyone please solve this mystery?

Well the John b Pick born Chapel en le Firth mum nee Potter certainly fits in with Eleanor Potter parents William Potter and Susanah Bagshaw.

Chapel En le firth would possibly be the registration district for Buxton.

I think it is the same John B Pick, but that's only my opinion.

Do you have the marriage certificate for your John B and Gene?? if so what was his occupation.

Someone on here has Mildred and John Bagshaw Pick she also has Samuel Pick 1887 Horsforth.

I see now where I went wrong. I thought you knew that "your" John B. Pick did actually marry Gene Atkinson. I assume that you just thought that this was so.

As Roy says, a birth in Buxton at that time would be registered in Chapel en le Frith.

The only thing I don't understand is that you say there were two John B. Picks born in 1923 but I can only see one on the birth index for that year??

I'm totaly confused by John's response to what has been found, Thats why i posted the details for where a Buxton birth would have been registered.

I'm the same Roy. There is definitely only one birth registered in Chapel en le Frith in 1923, not two. I wonder where John got that information from.

Hi everyone.
Mystery solved. I contacted the lady who 2 yrs ago said that John Bagshaw Pick was NOT my relation. I got a message yesterday and she now agrees that our grandparents WERE related. This is why I asked for help. It just didn't add up! As all your research has shown - my relation is in fact John Bagshaw Pick! Much of the mis-information was caused by this confusion and I can see now that the birth date of the other John B was wrong on my tree.
It's so easy to get your wires crossed in this game! I'm just glad i'm not called Smith!!! Thanks for all your help it's really appreciated. You are all brilliant! :-)
