This is the second branch of my family that I discovered had emigrated to USA / Canada and then disappeared from all records! I will keep hoping something turns up eventually. Thanks again Margee.

But he doesn't seem to be on the 1940 US census.

Thanks Margee. I meant Alfred not Albert. Sorry. So he went to Detroit. Well done for finding that and thanks again for your help. Will try and trace him and others from there.

I think I found Albert (b 1915 Ontario) United States Border Crossings from Canada to United States. Manifest of Alien Arrivals at Niagara Falls, New York 18 July 1938.
Other than that, the whole family seems to have disappeared, certainly moved elsewhere.

Margee

MargaretM

It is laughable, Sylvia, because it's not just the day that is wrong but the time also. It gives a time of 02:03 but it was the first post that I put on the thread so it was between 10:06 and 18:17. How on earth did they come up with 02:03 tomorrow?

I'm sure he survived the war, John. There is no record of him being a casualty. There is a good website of Canadian war casualties here and he's not on it:

Many thanks Margee, what a sad story to come out of this. The death of twin babies must have been devastating. Many thanks for your help. I'm wondering if Albert senior survived as a soldier of WW1 as his death record seems obscured. Hope the rest of the family prospered.

MargaretM Report 24 Jan 2015 20:45

Looks like the marriage date was wrong on the twins birth record.

Marriages Jun 1904 (>99%)

Hatfield Mary Ann Malton 9d 772
Johnson Albert Malton 9d 772

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 24 Jan 2015 18:34

The twins birth record gives parents' marriage as 22 May 1903, England.

Many thanks guys for these responses! I'm very grateful for your help. I suspected they emigrated to Canada.
I am also pleased to discover that the 1921 census showed that they had (at least) one more child in Canada: Alfred. Thanks Choccy. Further children or grandchildren born in Canada will probably be harder to trace. If anyone can help with this I'd very much appreciate. Great result :-D
