Just going back to the newspaper article- the term Esq.

"-an unofficial title of respect, having no precise significance, sometimes placed, especially in its abbreviated form, after a man's surname in formal written address."

It was just a term of respect that was often used when making formal announcements- we know from Charles and Keziah's marriage cert that William was a leather dresser.

I found Julia on the 1911 working as a Cook in a household ............. she says she's a widow and had no children.

I found her in 1891 also working as a Cook in Kent, age 28, and she says she's married, but there is no husband shown

I cannot find her in 1871, so presumably she married between 1871 and 1881, but who knows where!

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 5 Sep 2016 03:30

you have to work out from where it is placed as to how the relationships work.

I believe that as Albert was entered after Charles that it meant he was Charles' nephew ........... Charles may have told Julia that when they began boarding there.

You'd have to trace Julia back to see if there was a possible relationship.

Maybe Charles and Keziah had split up for a short time, and then got back together before the 1911??

That's something we'll never know!
