Oh Sharron. I haven't been on here for a couple of days. So sorry to hear about Fred. I loved to read of his antics. Maybe you could write that book about Freds Antics. You will miss him and all the things you have done for him over the years. You did a fantastic job in looking after him so well. I also feel for Freds friend who will miss him so much. I am sure he will get the great send off you have planned for him. <3 <3

You have been a fantastic daughter Sharron
You should feel very proud of how you treated the care of your dad in such a humorous, yet caring way.
He was a lucky chap, and even his funeral you are putting so much thought into how you are getting it just so fitting.
We have all enjoyed the stories.
Now is the time to do what you want to do.....and I hope you will still regale us with your stories.
Very best wishes and Take Care

Sharon, was this Fred who gave advice about planting veg? He kept telling me (when I asked) top plant onions and potatoes and said when May comes round ask him. Every year I've dismally failed, always putting it off. If its the same man, RIP and God bless him because he was lovely. Romany Star. x

I think your plans for Fred's funeral and his wake are wonderful.
Believe it Sharron, everything you did for Fred was from the heart, and that is special.

It brought tears to my eyes as Fred was every bit a part of GR as you are. <3 <3

I just did what was presented to me in the only way I knew.

Can't really see that I did anything special.

I very carefully avoided doing anything I didn't fancy doing.
Can't begin to imagine where that came from!

Sharron ~ I've said it before and I'll say it again ~ you are amazing!

You looked after Fred so well, and you're still doing so, by giving him such a wonderful sendoff (I can't think of an appropriate word), you have been a wonderful daughter.

There will be some tears, but laughter too, remembering his exploits.

Again, thankyou for sharing Fred's adventures with us. <3

If you haven't had the funeral yet, I hope you will tell those who are there about how Fred was the most popular non-member on GR. Perhaps you can count up how many of us have commented on "The End" thread and tell them. I am sure it will be impressive. We will all miss him.

I was thinking about you yesterday Sharron and imagined you serving up sausage sandwiches, so that everyone could share Fred's favourite food. I like all the ideas you plan and they will reflect Fred so much more than wreaths of flowers and such. I am sure all those who attend will appreciate the suitability of the coffintop arrangement and will enter into the spirit of things with the potting on of cuttings. No better way to be remembered than by a lovely shrub or plant.

I am glad things went so gently for Fred and for you all, I think you will find comfort in the peaceful passing in the time ahead.

I want to pass on something I heard on the radio the other day, I think it might make you smile.

A man was talking about a book he had written (he was a record salesman) and had collected lots of funny tales about customers going into record shops (the old type where the owner/staff really knew all their stock and people could hum or sing a snatch of a song and it would be identified for them) One day this lad went in and asked for a copy of Ghostbusters, he mentioned he needed it for his Grandfather's funeral. The owner thought it a bit odd but sold the lad the record. The next day he returned with it and said Can I change this, my Grandfather was in the RAF in the war and I was supposed to get the music for Dambusters!!! The owner said he collapsed with laughter afterwards imagining the funeral service and the Ghostbusters music being played as the coffin disappeared behind the curtain....... Who you gonna call, Ghostbusters!

There will always be laughter at a funeral when people talk about their lost friend or relative, and that's the best part of getting together afterwards, the telling of stories from the life of that person and the memories, happy as well as sad, of the times spent together.
