Get them quite a lot and I have an older version of Windows.

The problem happened to me earlier this year when one of their updates deleted my Norton anti-virus, supposedly uploaded the Windows anti-virus and I actually ended up with no firewall at all.

Had to get my computer man out, he said oh thats alright will only take about 15 minutes to sort out. He was here and hour and a half. Even he was surprised at what the update from windows had done.

:-D

Why run Windows when linux will do the same things without the aggravation ?

Windows 8.x is getting the sack anyway.

RtR are you saying that Linux is faultless?

And if Linux does the same things as 8.x what is the point of switching to Linux then.

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 13 Nov 2014 15:49

Well linux does the same good things eg run Firefox, Chrome and it will play multimedia, games and so on. It can even run Windows applications using WINE and such or it can run WIndows OS as a client. To be fair Windows can also run linux OS as a client too.

Unlike Windows linux is free.

Unlike Windows linux is largely free of all manner of serious security flaws in the basic operating system. It certainly does not have flaws going back 15 years.

Most people run a version of linux / BSD Unix even though they be unaware of it. 99.9% of routers run Linux. Apple IOS is built on top of Unix. Android is built on top of linux. SATNAVs are built on top of linux. Recent model cars have control and entertainment systems built on top of linux.

OTOH many car park systems, the co-op retail shops, airport and rail information systems, ATMs tend to use Windows. They are often photographed in varying states of not working or being hacked.

Windows is built on top of FUD ( fear, uncertainty and doubt ).
Several governments e.g. Germany have banned it from public sector, defense and safety related contracts. It is not used by Rosetta.

Unless there is an emergency release, they send them out in a batch, around the middle of the month.

Rather than allow them to upload automatically - which is usually at the most inconvenient time, change the setting in "Windows Update " to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them"

This also gives you the opportunity to see what they are for before you decide on the best time to load them.

I see there is another set of updates now. My PC is currently on 4 of 11.

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 10 Dec 2014 13:47

A lot of the updates are connected with support for Windows Cortina the latest incarnation of Mr Clippy. Those who have Siri on their mobiles might be happy ... I wonder if MS will log whatever is shouted at poor Cortina ?

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 10 Dec 2014 13:58

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 10 Dec 2014 15:43

http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/how-to/wp8/cortana/start-using-cortana

but on balance the Ford Lotus Cortina was more fun.

Siri is here

All inspired by I, Robot which was on the box recently.
